So sadly the conference this year got postponed, but I hear tickets are now on sale for next year!

16TH - 17TH OCTOBER 2021 | PORTSMOUTH GUILDHALL

filia.org.uk/about-the-conference

I'm just gonna carry over my ticket from this year. Very much looking forward to it and seeing MNetters again!! Could really use a feminist party right about now.

I was SO looking forward to my first ever trip to Filia.
Obviously 2020 has been the year of cancelled plans, and I do understand that is the least of many people's problems.

Anyway Filia 2021 ! Can't wait.

I can't remember - did they issue refunds or automatic carry over to next year?

Have found the relevant section in the email. I would have been happy for my ticket to have become a donation so I will check the details and buy a solidarity ticket if mine has already been carried over.

FiLiA is sad to announce that we will be postponing this year's conference to 2021. We have made the difficult decision after taking into account uncertainty around whether we will be able to gather in such large numbers by October, and after speaking with many of those involved, including venue management and attendees (particularly older and disabled Women as well as those affected by increased poverty). Tickets (including Solidarity Tickets) already purchased will be carried over to 2021, with the option for a refund where requested.

I know they were gutted to have to cancel but I think with the Covid it was always going to have to be pulled this year. Last year's was my first and it was just brilliant. Looking forward to 2021!

Smile
It is a bit weird to think it's a whole other year away instead of just a couple of weeks. But I hope we'll be able to wave at each other FannyCann and FeedTheSparrows!

Been reading Dr Em's blog on Holbeck, which is so powerful. Also depressing:

Hi,

We've just started a local FiLiA Feminist book group in Portsmouth where the FiLiA2021 conference is going to be held.

I wonder if Mumsnet is the place to find Portsmouth Women who might be interested?

Just joined Mumsnet, and finding my way around; so impressed by the Feminism going on here!

Sisterhood and Solidarity!

Welcome, FiliaLMT!

Not in Portsmouth myself, but hopefully you will find some locals here.

Hi @FiLiALMT I'm in Southampton and desperately trying to find a feminist group that doesn't Centre males. I'll certainly be up for joining you.

I tried putting the email address, but it kept reverting to my user handle (hence me needing to learn how to use the platform!)

Will try again :-)

Sounds like there’s some gardening needed to help secure the future of the conference in Portsmouth this year.

Imagine it’s challenging to organise, but really really hope it goes ahead.

Can’t wait for feminist gatherings.

Good of you to notice the state of the garden Witches... with a bit of luck and some fine weather it will happen - October 16-17th in Portsmouth. filia.org.uk/

The last one I went to in Bradford was totally glorious and then some, I've bought my ticket for this year and will keep all my bits crossed. BUT if it doesn't go ahead due to social distancing making the event non-viable (it's done at cost basically) the venue will still charge the full fee.

So yes, I'll be digging in a bit of compost, just to be on the safe side.

If you attend FiLia - fair warning that you might be staggering home with many, many books from the interesting stalls.

I went in London in 2017 just for the day and it was a fantastic experience. I was by myself and not that confident to talk to people but even so it was a really great day. Was gutted about covid cancelling last year I really hope it can go ahead - I’m now confident enough to just join in in a women’s space that I’ve booked a weekend ticket, party ticket and hotel by myself and know I’ll find women to talk to!

It’s early enough in the month that I can tend their garden a little to support.....so I’m going to head over to the website that rhymes with Loud Thunder and plant some parsnips!

Oh goodness, I read the OP and thought this years had been cancelled! Nooooooo!!!!

Anyway, I'm relieved to find out that wasn't true, will check out those links, thanks!

Report
FiLiALMT · 13/04/2021 07:38

Hi,
Thanks for sharing those links - looking forward to both events enormously!
@howmanyhats FiLiA hasn't been cancelled, but there is a risk to putting the event on as the committment to the venue costs will have to be covered, even if restrictions mean that it can't go ahead. FiLiA has started a crowdfunder to cover the worst case scenario, so if Women can contribute or share that it would be great (I think we aren't allowed to post links on here, but you can find it easily)
Sisterhood and Solidarity and hopefully see you all at FiLiA2021!
LM xx
