Co op

Sorry if there’s already a thread about this but a trans person called Lisa objected to the Co op advertising in the ‘transphobic’ Spectator. Someone from the co op of course apologised and said they would look at not advertising there again. It was brought to Andrew Neil’s attention (chairman of Spectator) and his reply on Twitter was

No need to bother, Co-op. As of today you are henceforth banned from advertising in The Spectator, in perpetuity. We will not have companies like yours use their financial might to try to influence our editorial content, which is entirely a matter for the editor.

Glad the Spectator are standing up to this rubbish.

600 likes for Co-op’s ridiculous post in a day. 6000 for Andrew Neil in an hour. Go Andrew and the Spectator.

Glad to hear it too.
Why are companies handing out such unthought through promises on the vague accusation from an internet nobody?
Someone needs to reign in the Twitter staff.

💪 I’m definitely subscribing to the Spectator now.

I wonder if the virtual signalling fool in the CoOp's twitter dept will ever have cause to reflect on her actions. I love the editor's response. It highlights the gravity of the situation. Will anyone further up at the CoOp say anything?

That's really good!

We do have a thread on it here (it's more about The Spectator, which is probably why you may have missed it).

Is that the same Andrew Neil who eats SNP politicians alive in interviews when they try to talk total bollocks about how to cover an independent Scotland’s 8.5% deficit without any tax rises or service cuts?
If so, I think I’m in love...! Grin

Apparently the Co op's advertising policy states that they will "not seek to influence editorial independence". Yet here they are.

Alway amazing how this oh so weak vulnerable group manage to have so much influence in the corridors of power and business Hmm

I'm really tired of organisations caving immediately on the hint of disapproval from any one identifying as trans on twitter

Co-op added to my boycott list

Here’s a link to Andrew Neils tweet, I do admire quite a lot about how he conducts himself I have to say. Didn’t the spectator give back furlough money?

The immediate capitulation is what I find the most confusing. (and yes, well done to Andrew Neil for doing what Editors should!)

If I were more conspiracy-minded, I might think that these things were set up - that it was pre-arranged and staged for the public to see, pour encourager les autres.

Surely taking a couple of days to actually investigate an accusation, or a few weeks months (years!) for an enquiry would be reasonable. It's the way they apologise and change behaviour within hours that I just find so unbelievably odd.

It's interesting how one powerful man takes them to task and they backtrack. Thousands of women regularly take these woke brands to task over misogyny and rarely do they listen.

Yep, Ova. Depressing. Much like Asda's immediate turnaround when the Baroness got involved. I mean, she's great, but it's depressing that ordinary people count for fuck all for these companies. Especially ordinary people of the female variety.

It's about time we got real instead of getting depressed.

I'm not sure we will ever combat misogyny without a complete re-think. I say that because we are now going backwards and having done all this stuff in the 60's and 70's that means we may not be tackling this issue in the right way.

Not sure what that re-think is but I sure do know it's needed.

I don't care who is on my side, I just want action and I'll take whatever's going
