(73 Posts)Make More Noise were contacted by a person proported to represent Black Lives Matter to distance themselves from the actions of those present at Speakers Corner and express solidarity with women and their right to free assembly

Oh that's interesting. I thought it was a real shame that the interaction was so heated. I would like to see the women involved having a discussion in a calmer situation.
That's good to know, DJLippy.
Because I, and a lot of other women, still aren't really clear what Posie and Venice are supposed to have done at speakers corner to be hauled over the coals. Genuinely. What did they do?
We are working on a blog post to clarify matters
Interesting! But as the notice says BLM is not one group.
And in fact it is a shame that anybody named them as it was quite clear that the march was not organised by them (as a quick google would have shown).
Also, irrespective of who organised it, being central London any march if bound to be piggy backed on by the SWP who are so over the top in needing to be shown as woke. (You can tell by their mass produced placards when they are around.)
And there is nothing they like more than to have an online example of them being woke, so the police directing marchers past the women speak out event must have felt they had won the jack pot. Of course they would want to be seen attacking women who have the nerve to say women are biological females.
And 99% of the march just walked past.
So this was more like a real world enactment of a vertual twitter spat ie a tiny % of people (twitter is one of the least used social media platform) picking a fight on twitter. Just self aggrandising egos.
Lets hope the next event is free of other events so that it can be an opportunity to make direct contact with other women - surely the most important aim.
Not getting derailed by self publicists.
Thanks DJLippy.
What a shame that the situation was so fraught that the questions from both sides did not get answered.
Interesting.
It was quite something to hear the chant of 'Black Lives Matter' segue into 'Transwomen are women' on one of the videos I saw. Almost as if SOME of the protesters were there just for a protest, any protest.
That's wonderful and very significant I think. That has cheered me up! Thanks for letting us know.
Dodge Lewis seems to be a self appointed 'BLM representative'. He may well represent the views of some BLM activists, but to hold himself out as speaking on behalf of BLM is quite bizarre behaviour.

Well it is one of the few things with a bit of excitement you can do with lots of other people at the moment.
Perhaps the membership of the SWP has changed in composition then? When I knew them they were mostly white males. Dialectical materialist who dismissed sexual politics as bourgeois deviation.
There is an acknowledgment in that post that the UK movement has been ‘hijacked’ by the far left. If that’s not an admission of a cuckoo in the nest then I don’t know what is (take that Penis News).
Well I suppose they can’t copyright the initials can they, do any bandwagon and the troublemakers will jump on it. So why they allowed the march to take place - straight at a peaceful religious gathering and right into speakers corner - I just don’t know. I guess they are the ones we can’t question right now.
They still have some basic principles I can’t get onboard with.

That was when sexual politics were feminism. Now it's all about telling women to stfu, they're all over it.

Indeed.

Hijacked?
BLM has always been on the far left. BLM has posited an extreme left wing position from the outset.

Errrr....
"The funniest thing is I just emailed Black Lives Matter UK and they have never heard of him. Also contacted another org connected with the "BLM" imprint in the UK. They had also never heard of this man. Seems pretty iffy."

"This is the bullshitter himself in case the above qt deletes. Telltale warnings are the idea that Nation Of Islam are suddenly Trans Rights stans, and this guy trying to grass people as being involved in the confrontation by name."

Oh my gosh. Don’t know if I watched the right video but I saw one with some women trying to ask people in an angry crowd to define what a woman is.
Now that is stunning and brave.

Yes, you don’t need to convince me about that. Interestingly, I had a look at the UK movement’s website and there doesn’t seem to be any ‘Aims’ listed whatsoever. The GoFundme page still lists all the original aims along with one about getting rid of the ‘hostile immigration/border policy’.
What I’ve been trying to say on the original thread (Probably quite badly) was that the entire ‘anti racism’ movement in the UK seems to have been taken over by the ideology on which this group’s aims are based.
And this one
3) We call for the transformation of our education systems and decriminalisation of black students in the classroom
Eh ? What's that supposed to mean?
The spin on Twitter is relentless. If the truth bit them on the arse they would claim it was Posie.
Ridiculous people.

I can't comment on the SWP, but the 'far-left' Morning Star newspaper has printed plenty of pro-GC articles/opinions even though I suspect they are probably TWAW.
They're actually prepared to print both sides of the argument, which is a lot more than can be said for the Guardian.
The Morning Star is most closely aligned with The Communist Party - who, while supporting the struggle against racism, sexism and homophobia, have taken a stance against identity politics and “LGBT ideology” (by which I assume they mean queer theory). So I doubt they’re TWAW as an editorial position.
