It’s long; about 1hr 25mins but worth it IMHO.

I got it from Twitter somewhere (can’t remember who posted it).

I listened to this the other day ( and posted about it on here). I thought it was a really good podcast and the therapist really understood the

Rane of issues that are going on for trans teens. She talks a lot about autism and had worked with autistic kids before she specialised in gender dysphoria. As someone with autism I was really impressed with how much she understood about how girls with autism experience adolescent.

Sorry, I missed that you’d already posted this @Siablue.

My son is autistic and I’m part of groups where I hear a lot of praise for Mermaids and how helpful they are.

This podcast was refreshing, I hope lots of people hear it.

Thank you, I will listen to this. I find a lot of the podcasts I listen to are "So open minded their brains have fallen out" when it comes to gender identity etc. so it will be nice to listen to an honest conversation.

What I like about it is that it separates the recent uplift in teens saying they’re trans from gender dysphoria to properly understand why there has been such an increase.

The discussion also addresses the ‘this is what people used to say about homosexuality’ narrative.

She also doesn’t deny that for some people transitioning may be the best thing when they are older but focuses on addressing distress. Why wouldn’t anyone want to help teens with their distress.

I imagine that this model of therapy is much more controversial in the US than the UK so she is brave. I hope that a few people who listened to the podcast changed their minds.

This is a very good interview - worth the hour and a half, as you say. Really interesting to get a therapist’s perspective. Her concern for the kids is so evident, I can’t see how anyone could accuse her of bigotry (though no doubt people will). It’s encouraging that she thinks more and more people in her field are becoming concerned about the numbers of teens saying they are trans.

That was a really great listen.

I sense that she is actually really fascinated by her work on an intellectual level and that's helped her to see things very clearly. Sometimes even when I'm listening to people speak on this issue that I basically agree with the emotional temperature is so high that I find it hard to really "hear". With this you can really take in the ideas.
