More “inclusive” female health

Saw this posted on Facebook by www.theendometriosissummit.com/

I recently had 3 hours of surgery for this debilitating condition affecting 10% of women. It’s mangled my very female pelvic anatomy and severely compromised my fertility by attacking my very female ovaries and rendering my very female Fallopian tubes useless.

I’m bemused that despite doctors telling me for years that my painful & heavy periods were “just part of being a woman”, my poor uterus is just now a social construct.

Are we seriously not even allowed to own the really shitty bits of being female?

“Opening an email this morning and seeing a webinar on women with endometriosis left us confused.

Endometriosis has no gender.

Some reasons why we say people with endometriosis-

The amazing Heather Reich Edwards taught us that organs don’t actually have a gender. You may think a uterus is female and a scrotum is male but those are applied and assumed constructs. Something like a road or a glass isnt male or female its the construct you apply to it. Just take a moment to let that sink in.

Trans (and yes the word is trans not trans men or trans females as SE Frank taught us at the Endo Summit Workshop) have endometriosis.

Not everyone identifies as male or as female, as their given gender at birth, or even as any gender. Not to mention even people born without a uterus can have endometriosis.

It is time to be inclusive and welcoming to all with endometriosis. Saying people with endometriosis vs women with endometriosis ensures that the entire community is represented.

The Endometriosis Summit supports inclusivity. This is why we have included Gender and Menstruation workshops, panels on LBBTQAI and trans endometriosis at our conferences.

Especially for those with a big voice in the community it is time to welcome everyone with endometriosis.”

Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain care must be inclusive to everyone regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, gender, or socioeconomic status.

But not inclusive of sex = only women and girls.

Saying people with endometriosis vs women with endometriosis ensures that the entire community is represented

The entire community - except women and girls who are the only ones who suffer from this.

Men and boys by definition are excluded.

Not ‘200 million people’. They’ve halved the incidence. It’s 200 million women and girls.

Morons.

I have just read this horse shit. A uterus being female is a social construct?? Have you read the comments with mental gymnastics to try and figure out what about the inclusive version of the 1 in 10 women statistic and don't you know cismen get it too. Oh the rage- from a support group for a women's health condition! Angry

Organs don't have a gender because organs aren't sentient and therefore don't have feelings or identities.

Anyone spouting ignorant, offensive shite like this needs to keep WOMEN'S health issues out of their fucking mouths.

As if any sane person would take advice or treatment from a 'professional' that believes this bullshit.

Sorry for the swearing. Just sick to my back teeth of women and our sex based health issues being shat all over by pathetic virtue signallers.

Thanks @2020Wumben. It went well, just wasn’t prepared for the recovery which isn’t as instant as the support group makes out! Hope you’re doing ok.

There have been about a dozen reported cases in men so I think that is what being referred to. But who knows when you don't use clear language to make your point

What horseshit. Endometriosis destroyed my life because I'm female, not because of my feelings of gender.

I personally don't care if they say "women, trans men and non binary AFAB" or whatever, to describe people who have endometriosis. But please don't remove the word woman.

Eh? "Trans" on it's own? Isn't that a bit reductive and othering?

I don't believe they were actually even slightly confused - except maybe at the temerity of some women daring to not adopt their idiocies.

Still, what happened to transmen and transwomen as terms?

No, they are not. They are simple biological facts pertaining to mammals.m

I read about that. IIRC the tissues growing in inappropriate locations were not uterine tissues, not bits of endometrium. They were tissues of other organs in the men's bodies, responding to the men's hormones appropriately for those organs, but inappropriately for the location. The medics or researchers had no word for this. Rather than coin a new word, they simply appropriated an existing word: endometriosis.

It seems possible that a woman with XX chromosomes (or some other combination that does not include a Y), plus a DSD, might not develop a uterus but instead have only endometrial tissue. She would be a person born without a uterus, who has endometriosis. She would still be a woman with endometriosis.

You may think a uterus is feminine and a scrotum is masculine but those are applied and assumed constructs.

The ancient Greeks certainly thought the uterus to be feminine. It was the seat of that feminine emotion considered to be unique to women: hysteria. Hence hysterectomy, hysteroscopy, etc.

What do people who believe that scrotums aren’t male and uteruses aren’t female..... what do they think male and female is????

An imperialistic cultural construct, so they say. Something like that anyway.

I doubt they sincerely believe that, it's just postmodernist wanky words.

What is wrong with these people?

Surely no-one is barking enough to think this in real life?

Do they think we have all lost the plot?

If I call noses washing machines and say that that is fine because words are just social constructs and everything is just a social construct, then language becomes fundamentally meaningless and cannot be used for communication any more.

I mean, sure, if they want to have a private language, spoken and understood by only a few people, in which there is no word for 'woman' but the category 'man' can cover women where it feels like it, and where noses mean washing machines and washing machines mean noses, then go ahead.

Just realise that when conversing with the rest of the world, you need to use the same language we all speak. And you certainly can't get the hump when people use language in the normal way and are not bilingual in your funny, made-up, private language.

Bluntly, these people have confused the word with the thing. The word was invented to point to the thing. They have decided that because the word was invented, ergo the thing was invented too. Fucking idiots. The most basic failure of logic I think I've ever seen.

Also odd how words are so fucking ephemeral and constructed that they are practically meaningless. Yet if the wrong person uses the wrong word that is literally fucking violence and can shortly have you put in prison.

Bloody words. What a mess.
