More “inclusive” female health

I recently had 3 hours of surgery for this debilitating condition affecting 10% of women. It’s mangled my very female pelvic anatomy and severely compromised my fertility by attacking my very female ovaries and rendering my very female Fallopian tubes useless.

I’m bemused that despite doctors telling me for years that my painful & heavy periods were “just part of being a woman”, my poor uterus is just now a social construct.

Are we seriously not even allowed to own the really shitty bits of being female?

The Endometriosis Summit supports inclusivity. This is why we have included Gender and Menstruation workshops, panels on LBBTQAI and trans endometriosis at our conferences.

Especially for those with a big voice in the community it is time to welcome everyone with endometriosis.”

Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain care must be inclusive to everyone regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, gender, or socioeconomic status.

But not inclusive of sex = only women and girls.

The entire community - except women and girls who are the only ones who suffer from this.

Men and boys by definition are excluded.

Not ‘200 million people’. They’ve halved the incidence. It’s 200 million women and girls.

I read about that. IIRC the tissues growing in inappropriate locations were not uterine tissues, not bits of endometrium. They were tissues of other organs in the men's bodies, responding to the men's hormones appropriately for those organs, but inappropriately for the location. The medics or researchers had no word for this. Rather than coin a new word, they simply appropriated an existing word: endometriosis.

It seems possible that a woman with XX chromosomes (or some other combination that does not include a Y), plus a DSD, might not develop a uterus but instead have only endometrial tissue. She would be a person born without a uterus, who has endometriosis. She would still be a woman with endometriosis.

The ancient Greeks certainly thought the uterus to be feminine. It was the seat of that feminine emotion considered to be unique to women: hysteria. Hence hysterectomy, hysteroscopy, etc.

If I call noses washing machines and say that that is fine because words are just social constructs and everything is just a social construct, then language becomes fundamentally meaningless and cannot be used for communication any more.

I mean, sure, if they want to have a private language, spoken and understood by only a few people, in which there is no word for 'woman' but the category 'man' can cover women where it feels like it, and where noses mean washing machines and washing machines mean noses, then go ahead.

Just realise that when conversing with the rest of the world, you need to use the same language we all speak. And you certainly can't get the hump when people use language in the normal way and are not bilingual in your funny, made-up, private language.
