Velindre Trust in Wales is hosting Drag Queen Story Hour where Aida H Dee is reading the story Charlotte the Scientist Finds a Cure which is about promoting girls and women in science.
Aida recently locked their account after sharing the 'Love has no age' slogan.

Thank you for this.

I do not understand why anyone thinks 'ADHD' is a suitable name for a children's entertainer. How do children with this condition feel, it feels like they're being mocked to me.

Yes, it's a bit off. Also the choice of book seems a bit odd. Surely a woman would be first choice to read a book promoting women in science?

Clearly all the women were busy that day, or something... Hmm

Drag queens are caricatures of women. Until all children are provided with equally strong and nasty caricatures of men the outcome is purely sexist.

I don't get it. How can you woman properly in a lab coat, safety shoes, and goggles while doing manly scientific things? Wouldn't you become gender fluid or a transman at that point? Hmm

W.t.f.

"Also, what's the deal with using brains for fake boobs. Why are they on display? Exactly what message are you trying to convey by doing that?"

I’d be interested to see if this person has cleaned up their public Facebook page after the Leeds thing (especially in light of that bbc radio/podcast(?)Presenter being sacked because of less savoury content in her online presence - sure there was a thread) or is it the usual double standards rolled in glitter.

If I was local I would sign up to attend and loudly complain.

I am interested to know what the other two titles that Ad is reading are. Apparently a book about LGBT that teaches love - presumably the one that tells children that they are fine as they are? Hopefully not any Pop n Olly stuff

Given that this is a photo and caption they thought was appropriate to include the DQST hashtag with, who knows how bad it could get?

I don't get why so many organisations think drag queen story time is such a good thing.

Is it too much drag race, combined with easy back scenes organisation, ticking off boxes, or is it free and available?

There are so many professionals who work with children, writers, actors, professional story tellers, retired nursery teachers, and librarians who are so good at this stuff and have the background and knowledge and experience to make it more of an educational experience for all children, including all those with learning difficulties, developmental delays, social needs.

Just why?

Yes to all of that. Hey, you could even ask a female scientist to read the book about attracting women into science. Crazy idea, I know.

Nailed. Is it appropriate for female strippers or burlesque artists to read stories to young kids in libraries - and if not , why ?

Do they think DQ are pantomime dames? Who are also a dreadful caricature

His fake boobs are brains.

So because he's going to a school, he thinks it'll be a right laugh to stuff some fake brains down his top and then joke about his brains/boobs nearly falling out using the drag queen story time hashtag. Ffs.

Just looking at Aida HD's twitter.

I would call this tweet libellous, were I an author with access to lawyers.

I've archived it.

Where did the anti-semite bit come from? (Not that I agree with the rest).

I believe it's to do with the Goblins at Gringotts Bank in Harry Potter. According to some people, they were based on Jews because of their secrecy, wealth, didn't mix with others and special magic. Complete bollocks obviously.

DialSquare · 22/08/2020 19:01

To add to that, the assumption made shows the the accusers are actually antisemetic not JKR. They are the ones that view Jews in that way.
