This must be an Internet wind up?

Let me just check if it's a hoax:

leadstories.com/hoax-alert/2020/08/fact-check-dreamworks-trolls-doll-is-not-designed-to-groom-young-children-for-pedohiles.html

Was DreamWorks Trolls World Tour Giggle 'n Sing Poppy Troll doll designed with a "private parts" button to groom young children for pedophiles? No, that's not true: The button on the rear bottom of the toy was designed to trigger giggling sounds whenever the doll is placed in a sitting position. There is no evidence, beyond the fears of some mothers, that the button is part of a secret strategy by the toymaker to prep kids for sex trafficking.

Phew. That's all right then.

Seriously?

Sorry I'm not coherent, I'm so disgusted. There is no way to excuse this and that hoax check doesn't explain anything.

The Power Range I think was an attempt to show how ludicrous and warning-sign-y this would be on a non-cute toy...

Surely to God, they would know as soon as someone presses the button in the crotch of the doll and it makes those giggling sounds, the jig is up?

How did they ever think this would fly?

Internet fact checking has become a goddamned joke. It's basically:

"A corporate spokesperson explained to us that they did no wrong, so I guess that checks out, nothing to see here, move along, just some dumb moms on the internet having problems with nothing again."

Remember when journalism was about asking tough questions of people like corporate PR reps and politicians? Now, they're just vehicles to transmit press releases. Even the "fact checkers."

Most of the time when companies market to pedophiles they expect it to fly under the radar of parents. A doll in MAP (Minor Attracted Person) colors that gasps when you push the button on her bottom is a bit too obvious.

Just seen this. Bloody hell that is grim.

I am normally quite relaxed. But there is a secret button on the croch, not advertised on the packaging , that when you press makes a gasping noise!

I think it is shocking.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/08/2020 07:30

I cannot believe that no-one at the company noticed that! That's utterly bizarre and disturbing.

Report
HumphreyCobblers · 06/08/2020 07:32

So many people working on that doll signed this off. They all thought that a button there that made gasping and giggling noises was a good idea.

WTF

So their author has a qualification in cultural anthropology. That’s why people go to journalism college. So they can realise the actual story when it’s slapping them round the face...

Interesting that the colour of the dolls hair (and clothes?) changed from the film, too.

I'd say best case scenario, ignorant male designers who would never have made a button out of a penis bulge because it would have screamed inappropriate. Women's genitals are not 'precious' in the same way so 'just a handy place to put a button'. That's assuming there isn't an active map group deliberately infiltrating toys in this way.

Pretty much sums it up.

And how they thought their "it's meant to make an 'oopsy-daisy' sound when she lands on her bum" explanation would fly with anyone who actually listened to the sound effects. They sound more like a comedy 70s porno than anything else, especially that bloody creepy giggle.

Normally I go to these things, and it's a bit of a reach, but this one is well, WELL over the line of of having a completely innocent explanation.

And the hair colours - almost as if someone did it to see how far they could go before someone flagged it up.

They knew exactly what they were doing with this.

The absolute best case scenario is that there was a puerile immature guy who thought he was being funny sneaking through this alternative adult perspective that nobody else had realised. Or a few had realised, which they shared the joke together via a covert snigger.

Grooming in plain sight.

Report
MoltenLasagne · 06/08/2020 08:51

If it was just an "oopsy daisy" fall down button it would be advertised on the box. I'd also wager with the positioning that landing on a flat surface wouldn't trigger that button, it would need to be actually pushed.

This is what happens when lines are blurred and there is a pervasive pornification that seeps into online, and then real, life.
