Audi drops not to subtle paedophile car advert!

There is no way this was just badly thought through.... Hmm

I think this comment sums it up

“Let's add it up: Red=eroticism, sports car=substitute for potency, animal print mini-skirt=sex appeal, banana=phallic symbol. But sure this is all just accidental...”

Do you think this was someone testing the waters so to speak about how society might respond to something like this? I’ve read quite a few things on here about how the MRA has as its core aim to normalise paedophilia as just another sexual preference (eg minor attracted person) and this was what immediately jumped to my mind with this ad.

What do you think??

Anyone who looked at that picture and thought it was in any way sexual has outed themselves as a paedophile.

I think it’s definitely a weird advert. I’m trying to think of what they were trying to portray. I could almost get on board with a flash car being something a small child might aspire to, or Audi trying to portray their family car as being cool to the kid as well. But the banana, why the banana?

Oh give over Hmm I am categorically not a paedophile and I instantly thought there was a (not so) subtle sexual undertone

I’m more bothered about a small child standing right in front of the car where the driver may not be able to see them.

Just to add I don’t mind this side of crazy online snowflakery. Let’s call out the subliminal sexualisation of kids even if the people who made the advert didn’t see it. Let’s call out the subliminal racism and sexism where we see it. That will get people to actually think and will make calling out fucking obvious brazen shit that was allowed to happen under our noses easier.

I hadn’t even considered it containing sexualised content - how grim. I just didn’t like the look of a small child stood in front of a car like that.

I don't believe for one second they didn't see it. The slogan is "Lets your heart beat faster - in every aspect."

And kids eat bananas - are you suggesting they wanted to portray a phallic symbol? That says more about you than it does about the advert makers I’m afraid.

Perhaps you can explain how that slogan relates to a little girl eating a banana in front of a car, Meph?

They are clearly being edgy here. It doesn't "say more about me" to notice this.

I don’t get it? It’s a little girl eating fruit in front of a car? What’s the problem????? Are we inventing things to complain about now cow there isn’t enough shite in the world to be worried with?? I seriously don’t see what the issue is?

that is a very weird pose she's in. At least they haven't draped her over the bonnet.

Aren't glossy adverts checked before being released into the wild? I can't believe nobody said 'What's the banana about then?" I thought expensive ad agencies fine-tune every detail of this stuff!

I assume someone, somewhere decided this advert was edgy but thought they had plausible deniability. It's very weird.

What happens next? People rock up at the AUDI garage to order themselves a kid Confused

If the car was in the middle of a road or car park you could argue that the girl looked like she was going to get hit by the car but really?

What do you think the slogan is saying? Funny choice of words, don't you think?

I think the connection is more that was seen as the norm to advertise cars (to Men seen as core market and decision makers) with sexy women on bonnets...its a bit of a flip to say there is no connection in this advert - its to overt in my view and partly to do with the pose rather than the banana. As a photo in itself think its fine, pt in context of car advertising and the history that goes with that its not

I looked at it and struggled to see what was the issue to be honest. Although it wasn't a very interesting ad. My thought was perhaps it's that the car might be unsafe with the child so close. A child eating a banana didn't cross my mind as bring sexual at all until a friend on fb mentioned it 🤷‍♀️

Could have used an innocent satsuma instead of a saucy banana or apple.

Doesn’t mean offended are closet paedophiles, mean they recognise typical props and poses used by the car industry to indicate sexuality.

‘Woman posing in front of red sports car’ image search brings that up succinctly.

OhHolyJesus · 05/08/2020 11:14

You don't normally see kids posing next to cars, in their car seats smiling as the family are en route to a holiday, sure but leaning on a car, any car?

It's weird.

I haven't seen the tv ad, nor do I want to, but the whole thing inc banana and tag line are weird. If they are promoting it as a family car it should focus on safety not speed and making anyone's heart beat faster. It's just odd.

Report
Horehound · 05/08/2020 11:18

I also don't see the problem.
I do actually think people overtly interested in peadophilia are peados themselves. Maybe they don't realise it actually.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/08/2020 11:18

YY, exactly, OhHolyJesus

I'm not offended by it, I think they were trying to be edgy. Did it backfire? Who can say, it's often very difficult to evaluate brand impact.
