This started off pretty interesting and readable, and his personal admiration of Martina was nice to read about, but then I got to the part where he describes Martina "educating herself" and coming out swinging.
What happened here seems clear. Navratilova began by asking an earnest question, one which is on the minds of many people as they watch these profound societal changes but are uninformed about the science and the specific claims invoked to justify these changes. Once she was excoriated without any mercy or understanding, it drove her further into a feeling of alienation from her accusers.
and now I'm fucking mad. GREENWALD YOU CONDESCENDING PIECE OF SHIT. He's basically saying Martina didn't research the issue and come to her own conclusions. Instead, she made a decision on the issues based on her feelings because the TRAs were mean to her. Oh, and obviously Renée Richards, also played a decisive role in her didactic op-ed. - women don't think for ourselves, we wait for the males to tell us what to think.
I had to stop reading at this point. I feel like I got suckerpunched by the misogyny because his obvious admiration for Navratilova made me let my guard down. It's ruined my mood tbh in ways that most misogynistic writing does not because it took me by surprise. Why are men LIKE this? It's fucking gross.
