From Penis News, but hopefully this link won't give them revenues:

“We are aware of a number of editorial staff at the BBC who are unsympathetic to transgender identities and hope this is an unfortunate oversight, rather than a deliberate attempt on the part of these individuals to prevent parents and young people from accessing the support they need,” a Mermaids spokesperson said.
“We call on the BBC to act swiftly to rectify the situation. We also ask the BBC to clarify its position on staff publicly sharing subjective opinion criticising its own coverage of trans issues.”

Ha that’s a barely veiled threat.

Interesting...... Is it too much to hope that the tide is turning?

Interesting... I wander whether this is an innocent site update, or some hasty arse covering?

No doubt there'll be a huge fuss.

I was curious about this sentence though.

It then linked to an NHS page about gender dysphoria – the medical term for the strong sense of discomfort many, but not all, trans people feel at the mismatch between the gender they were assigned at birth and their true gender.

If they don't feel a mismatch, why transition?

Yes, they said 'we will be updating the content soon' which could just mean they are doing some updating and Mermaids/GIRES will be back on there. Or it could mean that they are realising that promoting the use of untested drugs on kids isn't a good look? The BBC has had quite a few articles recently about the whistle blowing at the Tavistock etc.

Anyone else think that there is an internal battle brewing?

I complained to my daughter's secondary school because a sixth form newsletter (written by students) had recommened the Mermaids website. I told them my objections and gave links to other websites and articles.

She wrote back saying that the borough's safeguarding lead said that Mermaids is fine. She also said that Mermaids is endorsed by Stonewall and the NHS. I gave her some more opinions on why I wasn't reassured by the endorsement of Stonewall and the NHS.

It would be great if the BBC were realising that they've been backing the wrong horse.

There’s a three letter acronym just on the tip of my tongue.

So when does the campaign to name those people and get them sacked start, then? If Penis News could stop with the "nice career you have there, shame if something was to happen to it" that would be lovely.

If this is in fact a deliberate and permanent decision, then this is pretty huge isn't it?!

The leap from 'BBC removes Mermaids+GIRES' to 'BBC = transphobic' is quite a remarkable one imo.

This morning it was all 'BBC tells everyone to use pronouns'

Does PrickNews not realise that you can support Trans people and their rights, and also question the Mermaids 'surgery and drugs and no qvestions asked' mantra?

PN are hard of thinking.

About bloody time.

Given they did that Newsnight programme, over the next few months as the detransitioner court cases ramp up they could not claim to have had no idea of the harm done by affirmation only approaches like Mermaids promote.

They would be leaving themselves wide open to huge damage(s) if they continued signposting Mermaids to vulnerable people.

I rather suspect it is lawyers not GC members of staff driving this change.

I wonder if there might be a news story about to break? Preemptive arse-covering maybe?

I'm curious about that too. Could just be a response to all the feedback they've been getting, but they are a news org, wouldn't be surprising if they know something the rest of us don't yet.

I will never understand why people who claim to care about trans youth are against calls for Mermaids and GIDS to follow proper ethical and safeguarding procedures.

The prick news always uses "young people" instead of children because they know exactly what would happen to them if they told the truth.

What surprises me is that BBC weren't boycotted for promoting Science since they've taken an active role in educating the world since the outbreak. 🤣

That must have been baffling as fuck putting Science stuff online, checking etc and see biology compared to a concept.

... or possibly something involving Mermaids themselves? Would not be a good look to be recommending them as a source of support after a piece damning them...

Report
canigooutyet · 10/07/2020 20:08

Oh possible change to the Science Curriculum? It's already one of the suggestions that practicals parts might need to be removed, so obviously so padding needs doing.

Biology would be a good one to increase knowledge on and well cannot say that both are truly science in the biological sense.

Of course this in just conjecture and I would shit myself if this happened haha and also kick myself for not picking numbers instead!!
