Because, despite Reddit's best efforts, there are still many people believe that women have a right to discuss issues that affect them. Women will continue speaking.

But, hey, GenderCynical - I hear you still have r/abusedsluts with which to console yourselves.

We’re going for deliberately goady to draw more fire, then? I missed the memo. Maybe add ‘yah, boo, sucks’ to the title too?

FreeKitties Thu 02-Jul-20 11:41:32

We absolutely should be celebrating that mumsnet FWR is still here.

As many people have pointed out Reddit hosts discussion boards where rape and sexual abuse fetishes are freely discussed, so the justification of removing a board which discusses women’s rights is barely disguised misogyny at its very finest.

I am 39 years old I am pig sick of being told to be nice, be kind, don’t talk about that you
might upset someone. Whilst men can talk about assaulting, abusing and raping women without worrying about being judged negatively I will do all it takes to make sure women’s voices are heard.

I don't think threads that are based on intra-forum arguments tend to last long, generally.

PurpleHoodie Thu 02-Jul-20 11:44:35

Mumsnetters will just do "feministing" all over the rest of the MN if FWR was closed.

TheProdigalKittensReturn Thu 02-Jul-20 11:44:41

I'd say the simple answer is that Reddit is run by men, and Mumsnet is run by women.

PurpleHoodie Thu 02-Jul-20 11:45:38

What Prodigal said.

Shedbuilder Thu 02-Jul-20 11:45:57

Don't like your tone, OP, though I agree that Reddit's decision stinks.

And thank you, from the bottom of my heart, Mumsnet, for continuing to uphold women's right to discuss feminism here.

BaronessBrighterThanYou Thu 02-Jul-20 11:46:09

Yep to prod..

GreytExpectations Thu 02-Jul-20 11:48:07

Your tone speaks volumes, OP.

Melroses Thu 02-Jul-20 12:05:14

Women should be able to discuss being women.

FancyPants20 Thu 02-Jul-20 12:18:11

Why are people tone policing the Op? hmm

GreytExpectations Thu 02-Jul-20 12:28:36

I don't think women should tell other women what opinions they can and can't have. So what if people on reddit don't agree with this forum? That's the nature of the Internet, we don't have to like everything on it. So just crack on with your own discussions and let those who don't agree have their own discussions

BilboBercow Thu 02-Jul-20 12:30:18

"i don't like your tone"
Off you pop then

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz Thu 02-Jul-20 12:31:39

I'm confused, is OP telling us off or seeing our side? confused

CuriousaboutSamphire Thu 02-Jul-20 12:32:06

What's wrong with the tone of the OP?

Pissed off at yet another Reddit decision to close down a female run board? Be polite and be kind, sweetie!!

Or have I missed something?

GreytExpectations Thu 02-Jul-20 12:32:52

If OP can critise other people's opinions then people can critise her tone. It's a two way street, if you are going to attack an entire online community because you don't agree with them than you can't get anoyed when people point that out

TopBitchoftheWitches Thu 02-Jul-20 12:34:20

Aw, the men don't like when talking, women know your place. hmm pricks.

TopBitchoftheWitches Thu 02-Jul-20 12:35:50

FFS women ! Bloody phone.

ErrolTheDragon Thu 02-Jul-20 12:44:24

* I don't think women should tell other women what opinions they can and can't have.*

...and then pretty much does exactly that?hmm

I'm not exactly sure what the issue is that people are seeing with the OPs 'tone' ...especially if you do a comparison with another current thread re reddit.

TheProdigalKittensReturn Thu 02-Jul-20 12:48:00

You're only allowed to be goady if you have a penis.

RoyalCorgi Thu 02-Jul-20 12:53:42

I don't understand why people are attacking the OP.

Why hasn't MN closed down Feminism Chat? There's no good reason for them to - this is just women discussing issues that affect us. If you believe in free speech, then why would you close down the feminism board?

If you were to look at it from a purely commercial point of view, then you've got two countervailing pressures: one is that some advertisers have withdrawn advertising because of the supposed "transphobia" on this board; the other is that this board draws in huge numbers of users, probably more than AIBU and chat.

GreytExpectations Thu 02-Jul-20 12:54:15

...and then pretty much does exactly that?hmm

Not doing that at all actually. But nice try. You really can't tell the difference between a tone and an opinion?

CuriousaboutSamphire Thu 02-Jul-20 12:55:53

If OP can critise other people's opinions then people can critise her tone. My bad! Didn't check the poster's name!!!!
