I had hoped that this nonsense was mainly centred in Cardiff (for now) but it seems to be spreading into other areas of Wales.
This is on a job application form -
I have so many issues with this.
- For someone to answer this question, they need to know what exactly 'gender' is. Who gets to decide exactly what those definitions are for this employer? Where's the manual?
- It doesn't allow you to opt out of answering the question like a lot of questions that allow you to say 'prefer not to say'
- It then presumes you believe in gender ideology and makes you give an answer within that framework
- You're not assigned a gender at birth. You are 'assigned' a sex because they are making a judgment on biology.
- What the fuck does it mean to work, or not work full time within a gender role
I put this last question to you, ladies & gentlemen.
If we're going back to 1950's gender roles (which seems to be what all this is based on), how about when we're at work, we offer everyone cups of tea and suggest that we do their ironing for them? Is that working in a gender 'role'? I'd say most of you would answer 'yes' to the last question. Afterall, if we're sticking to dated gender stereotypes, most of you would not have continued working after having children, and thus, would be working in the opposite role or gender 'assigned' to you at birth!
