Juno Dawon’s new book about being a transgender for teenagers has had its publication date put back. She says this is because of the uncertainty around the gender recognition act and she did not want to put out a book that was out of date.

This is interesting as she is published by Hatchette whose staff were reportedly refusing to work on the Ickabog after JKRs statement. I wonder if this was the background to this.

I also wonder if they are waiting to see what the outcome will be of the Kiera Bell case around giving children hormone blockers. That is another way the book could be out of date by the time it is published.

Here's hoping.

That really doesn't make sense.

A publication date of Aug 20? That book should be quite far through the publishing process.

Yet Juno doesn't want to publish anything out of date? If the consultation had recommended changes to the GRA like self-ID or allowing under 18 years old to get a GRC it would still have been out of date. Seems a bit odd.

Poor Juno.
And their career has been going from strength these past few years.

Books with the sole purpose of promoting cross sex hormones to teens and pre teens might not be as much of winner as they thought.

That’s a whole book that has been written, edited and basically ready for the printers. That is possibly why some of the staff kicked off about working on JKRs book.

If someone high up in Hatchette is supportive on JKR (which they are). They might think it was bad business to have a book coming out which promoted hormones to children when anyone can see that is the next big scandal waiting to happen.

It might not be that. It was probably because Juno wrote about self ID taking for granted that it would come through and now the book is wrong.

Unless Juno was banking on the changes going through and her book reflected this?

Oh sorry, I see Siablue already made that point.

I think that that is basically what she said in her statement.

The book is already listed for sale on amazon .Having said that I know someone who is notoriously bad at meeting their writing deadlines and they had a book listed for sale on amazon that was nowhere near finished. I kept threatening to order 3000 copies on pre order so his publisher would put the boot in.

It's interesting that Juno hasn't left Hachette or shown any intentions of doing so.

Well it is clear that the team working with her support her to the point of wanting to walk out.

Shows how much Stonewall et al assumed the changes were a done deal, doesn't it?

Yes, it is, isn't it? But entirely consistent with her character.

If Juno did that, it was an incredibly stupid thing to do and there's an editor who needs firing for letting it through.
