Have just come across this. It's chaired by Trevor Philip's and is obviously slanted towards BLM.
Is this also an opportunity to address how the history of women is treated?
I'd hate for progress in one area while leaving women's history in the same state it is now.
They are asking for evidence
Today, Policy Exchange issues a call for evidence asking people to share their experiences and concerns about the ways in which history is being politicised, and sometimes distorted, in the current moment, sending their evidence to [email protected].
This might include:
Examples where public memory is being re-written, perhaps because certain historical subjects, or people, are deemed to be too controversial for a public setting such as a museum or town square
Examples where a publicly available resource – a curriculum, website, textbook, museum exhibit or similar – displays a one-sided or distorted view of history.
Examples where academic freedom appears to be under threat, perhaps because historical subjects are being neglected, or avoided altogether by teaching staff because they are deemed too controversial or challenging.
Wouldn't the transing of women such as Anne Lister and James Barry come into this. Also things like school houses using names of famous men.
What do you think?
