Girls shorts

Hi all, hoping you wise ones can help me. Do any of you know where I can buy shorts for my 12 year old daughter that are mid-thigh length? I've been looking for ones but every year it gets harder and harder to find suitable ones. It seems to me that as she gets older, the clothes in her size get skimpier.
I bought some for her recently, but when she tried them on, they barely covered her bum.
I've looked in the boys section of shops, but while the length is fine, she would like ones that are more "girly" in pattern and colours.
Thanks in advance for any advice and recommendations you may have.

It is hard isn’t it? My own daughter has started to cut off old jeans and allow for a roll up instead of a hem. And old cotton pajama pants cut off for around the house.

These next ones are good

Lands End and Vertbaudet both have girls' Bermuda shorts in pastel colours, and denim. The Vertbaudet ones are quite slim round the thigh (which my Dd likes, but maybe not for everyone.

I like these Boden ones too

I’ll second old jeans cut to the length you want. Been doing that since I was 12. Finding shorts at 32 is just as bad!

Denim can be too warm on hot days, and uncomfortable.

Depending on her height, smallest size in women’s might be an option.

My daughter has several pairs from Element, Billabong and Boden, Next. All Chino style. Not difficult to find at all if you avoid specifically searching for girls shorts.

M&S have some nice boy ones that are longer embriodered chinos

My dd ended up with Lands End skorts. She hates tight and / or short shorts and won’t wear ones that look too boyish for fear of being teased.

A lot of the Scandi type brands are great for this. I'm a big believer in children dressing like children and girls' clothes being fit for purpose! Look up Maxomorra, Meyadey, Alba

My DD chose several pairs from sainsburys. All a decent length. DD is 13 but got them from the women's section.

Asda, for all their faults, do some, I believe.

I get my girls (12 and 14) shorts from primark boys department. Better length, no lace or glitter, and POCKETS.

It’s disappointing isn’t it that girls shorts skim the top of the thigh & boys shorts hang loosely round the knee.I have always worn cut off old jeans, my daughter wears her brothers hand me downs

My 14 yo has jogging bottom shorts m, mid thigh from Urban Outfitters and Topshop. Bit £ but at least they’re not skimpy.

Women pj shorts give me the rage, you end up just fully exposing yourself.

When it comes to pockets my mum now alters my girls clothes to include as my 4 year really loves having dresses with pockets.

Look for Hilo Hattie Hawaiian shorts. I think you will both like them.

Funnily enough I’m sewing a pair of purple linen shorts for my nearly 12 yr old just now but Landsend & walking shorts from mountain warehouse or similar have solved this problem for us too (but my clothes have the best pockets wink)

We just get boys ones.

Decent length.
Sturdier made.

Job done.

Everyone saying just get boys ones is missing the point - the OP’s dd (and mine) don’t want ones that look boyish.

My dd wants non sludge colours and something that fits her properly (she’s no longer straight up and down). Plus she’s sensitive to fabric and will only wear soft fabric with a lot of stretch (she likes to test clothes by doing the splits - not possible in chino type shorts).

Following as I’m sick of bits of my and my DD’s genital area falling out the side of shorts. I’m in the market for some mid thigh cycling shorts in cotton Lycra for both of us so we can sit however we like without fear of exposure

DD1 (12) refuses to wear skimpy shorts, we got nice Bermuda length shorts for her from Boden and Gap.

CorianderLord Tue 30-Jun-20 12:06:23

As soon as she's in adults sizes she can get mid thigh ones from ASOS. They have loads they're v trendy.

Just search mid-thigh shorts, mom shorts or cycling shorts

SwimmingCait Tue 30-Jun-20 16:06:50

I was going to say Mountain Warehouse who have done really nice girls cotton shorts with good pockets for the last 3 or 4 years but I see they don't have any girls shorts at all on their website this year sad
