Keir Starmer refused to confirm Lloyd Russell-Moyle will be sacked.

He is on Today soon.

Report

He was called out on earlier on GMB and challenged about the difference between RBL retweeting something versus LRM actually writing an article. All he could do was parrot "trans rights are human rights" and that people should stop throwing mud on both sides. He did say something about recognising the need for safe? spaces.
He nearly nearly fainted when asked about biological males in women's sport.
Slippery and evasive - he's never going to stand up for women and children's rights over this. The TRAs captured him long ago.

Report
AppleJane · 29/06/2020 08:11

He said LRM had apologised (didn't actually say so I won't sack him) but it was implied.

He said he would be judged on his decisions with regards to RLB and LRM.

no problem with that - id expect him to sack LRM first rather than go on TV and tell people he was going to. LRM is an utter twat but he does deserve to be told directly he's out rather than be told via a TV show

if of course he's out.....or maybe a convenitnet reshuffle will happen soon..

On Today now. Nick Robinson interviewing.

He was on GMB. He wasn't answering the questions. He was asked why one MP was asked to resign for retweeting an antisemitic tweet but another MP actually wrote an article triviliasing domestic violence and no action taken. He skipped around a lot of the questions asked and looked very uncomfortable.

i dont for one moment believe he thinks TWAW - he's just desperate to avoid getting dragged into it until his grip on the party is firmer. in his position I'd do the same - bluntly hes got 4 years off opposition ahead of him and labour is a factional car crash. he has to weld it back together into a potentially electable party and that's an incredibly difficult task

im prepared to give him a bit of time, labour arent in government and have no power to change anything.

but im watching very closely.....

He’s taking the “he’s apologised so that’s the end of it”. Nick probing further on Kier’s views of the issues - Kier thinks trans rights don’t go far enough, but wants to stay clear of the political football...

But at least he is talking about more debate being needed.

If Kay Burley had been doing the interview I think he'd had got a harder grilling. She doesn't just let it drop at 'he's apologised'.

Nick Robinson doing good work on Today on RAdio 4: "What do you think about the conflict or rights between women's rights and trans rights?"

Keir Starmer: "It's the wrong question."

It's going to be a while before KS handles this in any way other than the most convenient way for him politically.

I heard that on radio 4.

Wrong question.

Starmer never used the word women once

Not once

I just LOVED (not) the fact he said on GMB that “ it is a sensitive issue and discussions need to be had on both sides”.

When will people understand that this issue doesn’t affect men. It affects WOMEN (adult female humans).

In my book that means that no MEN should be having any discussions. WOMEN have made it abundantly clear that this is not working for them. WOMEN should have the final say in this.

Any man (and woman!) who votes/says that women should just suck it up as TWAW is complicit in the erosion of women.

Starter for ten: spot the difference between RBL and LRM which might have a bearing on how they were treated by KS.

KS is another waste of space, it would appear.

Keir Starmer: "It's the wrong question"

Translation. It's a question Keir Starmer can't answer without alienating Labour voters.

Listen to Today.

KS - useless.

Trans need more protection - didn’t say what rights they don’t have.

‘Some’ women’s groups have concerns.

There is a compromise for safe spaces.

= Safe spaces can be compromised.

NR didn’t question why RLB was sacked for a retreat and RLM for thinking trivialising and weaponising DV against women.

As a criminal justice barrister - I had Hugh expectations of KS.

How wrong was I.

Wrong question. Unbelievable

Patronising sod with the wrong question remark.

My response would have been that it's the question I'm asking so kindly answer.

I understand the strength of feeling and wish Keir Starmer would be clearer on women's spaces.
If Labour is off the vote list - who will you vote for? I struggle with the self ID issues, a lot. I'm an older feminist, a TERF I suppose. Having said this if Labour loses women voters because of this, we're stuck with the Conservatives and we know how bad that is.

You can wishfully believe it but he hasn't said it. He has the power to show leadership & change the tone of the debate, including beyond the Labour Party.

If he doesn't believe in biology then he is anti-science, and has a tenuous grip on reality. Like we need another one of those on the world stage.

I can't imagine he does think twaw but he has a lot to get a grip on at the moment. It would be carnage if he sacked two shadow ministers in one week. I would give him a bit of a chance.

God you single-issue feminists are tedious.

I thought KS's interview with (hectoring) Nick Robinson this morning was excellent. Especially on whether kids should go back to school. But I listened to the whole thing, not just one question.

(Not a Labour supporter or a Tory either, before I get accused of it)
