I am really very cheered by this. So glad that another well known and beloved writer has stood up for her. At bloody last.

He's another one who is virtually uncancellable.

Just finished the reading Rose Madder only yesterday, seems so apt, glad to see this

Yes! More people are speaking up. It’s been interesting seeing lots of people openly call Damian Barr out too. Maybe there is hope

Wow..... hadn't expected him to be one of the first ... he goes up in my estimation BIG TIME

He won’t give a shit, he’s rich as Croesus, pretty much any publisher would have him and he’s an old white guy. Safe as houses. Why others like him aren’t doing the same is the mystery.

Ah this makes me so happy. He was one of the first authors whose work I loved ❤️ good on yer Mr King!

He might well backtrack, don't count your Stephens yet. I remember Mark Hamill liked something vaguely GC then withdrew and apologised sharpish when the wokies descended.

Do you think he'll get any rape threats or told to choke on anyone's girl cock?

HandsOffMyRights · 28/06/2020 19:16

Yes!!!! Please let this stay true.

I think he may have retracted a tweet last time JK tweeted though.

I hope Tabitha, Stephen' wife, supports JK too. That would really make my day.

Yy that was what I thought too. I hope he has become braver and this retweet stays.

I think any celeb who retweets her now knows exactly what they are getting themselves into

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 28/06/2020 19:20

If he's retracted before then I suspect he knows exactly what he's doing. This doesn't look like a hasty move.

Perhaps another author who cherishes the true meaning of words and the correct use of the English language?

Where are all the others??

I think he's liked and retracted before, but I suspect JKR's tenacity and calm poise might be giving a bit of courage to all sorts of people who, for whatever reason, have been intimidated into silence. Of course it was disappointing to see that she didn't get immediate and fulsome support, but by not backing down herself (because why would she?) she has trailblazed so that others can see that actually, you don't burst into flames if you hold the line, and there is safety in numbers.

Essentially, JKR is the bigger name's and wider public's Spartacus moment. You don't break a dam by pushing it once, you need to apply consistent pressure. It's the same with a wall of silence. I see JKR very much as an honorary denizen of FWR, speaking out and getting shit just because we know it's going to take dedication. (And honestly, if she's not here already, I think I'll be very surprised...)
