NHS England Head Of Public Participation tells survivors to stay in their lane.

A day or so ago I had tweeted at another user that women's single sex services should ensure that the EQ Act 2010 is correctly applied to protect women.

Last night the Head Of Public Participation And Engagement - Olivia Butterworth @LiviBut replied to me in a tweet that

"It has never been an issue or a problem. Unless you have direct personal experience stop jumping on the bandwagon".

When I pointed out I AM a survivor she blocked me. This is really unacceptable. Trolls are one thing. Vicious trans activists are one thing. But a Public Health Official using her account to silence women who have experienced domestic and sexual violence is quite another.

Make a formal complaint.

Report
Jeanhatchet · 27/06/2020 12:39

I have complained formally but the email reply was that no complaints to NHS England are being processed at present due to efforts focused on Covid 19. So they can screw up as much as they like for now .

Where do they get this bullshit that transwomen are more likely to be attacked than females from?

I want facts and figures.

Why are these males, who have had zero issue using male facilities their whole lives, now too scared to use them?

The Head of Public Participation basically told you to shut up because you asked for the Equality Act to be correctly applied? That's an interesting interpretation of her job title.

op Sorry I've just seen that I put a grinny face rather than a shocked face in my first reply to you. I hope my stupidity was evident.
I suspect this has all brought back nasty memories. Hope you're OK x

What on earth does the head of public participation actually mean. This also means theres an entire participation department.

I do think patient and public involvement is really important and is undervalued. I don't have a problem with her job title.
(just her)

Regardless of one's views on this issue should a senior civil servant be openly critical of and be openly campaigning to influence government policy?

Olivia Butterworth

@LiviButt

A plea to every senior NHS leader. Please speak up and stand up for #LGBT rights. We cannot allow this Government to roll back the progress made as we work to ensure that our #QTIPOC #Trans #NonBinary siblings have equal rights and #inequalities are eradicated #NHSVirtualPride

Trans women have been able to access single sex spaces for decades with literally no recorded issues.

Does she actually believe this?

I’m so tired of that being trotted out

Has anyone actually ever researched whther thete were issues recorded?

I know how the nhs works - what they record is entirely limited by what nhs england says they should record

Unless you went through patient notes & safety records, you wouldn’t know if there had been incidents

Has anyone ever done that?

Well that’s a big fat story isn’t it?

Yes. I think it is. It's interesting that someone with her job title has been so publicly dismissive of a woman requesting the Equality Act is correctly applied.

It’s also rather a statement to say ‘it’s never been an issue’ as there was a long and relatively recent campaign to ensure there was single sex ward provision in the NHS and it actually became a marker of high quality care that had to be demonstrated. Why was there the need for sex segregation in care settings?
