TRA push back against the shelving of self-ID as law in the UK

Are people aware of the pushback by TRAs against Liz Truss' decision to shelve plans for amending the GRA2004 to allow self-ID?

Looks like we need another campaign.

It's to be expected and I doubt Truss etc... weren't aware that it would happen.

I'd like to think they chose to uphold women's rights because it's the decent (and lawful) thing to do rather than based on a social media driven popularity contest.

Yes I've seen this letter although to be honest telling a Minister of State that she is using language that is " very similar to the anti-trans rhetoric used by transphobic hate groups and organisations such as Woman’s Place UK, Transgender Trend and the LGB Alliance" is hardly the way to get her onside.

I'm emailing Liz Truss, Boris and my MP now just to ensure that women's voices are heard and Boris knows we have Liz's back. EVERYONE needs to do this.

I hope anyone who clicks that Google Docs link is browsing incognito, your Google account will show up on the viewing list.

The fact that you chose to make this a priority during the biggest crisis the world has faced in decades is even more disturbing. During lockdown, hundreds of women have been killed by abusive partners. Ethnic minorities are four times more likely to die from COVID-19. Surely these issues are more urgent?

WHY AREN'T YOU WRITING A LETTER ABOUT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OR COVID-19 YOU RIDICULOUS MANIPULATIVE FUCKWITS

I honestly can't see anyone who has informed themselves on the issues, and Liz Truss appears to know something about it, being even slightly swayed by this letter. The word I'd use to describe it is simply "stupid."

Yes, @TawnyOwl we all need to do this. The TRAs are organising via Twitter and gloating about the "8000 signatures" they've collected ...

I think it's worse than that.

Apparently, Gendered Intelligence (you might not have heard of this lobby group but the first part of their name is meaningless and the second part is a definite breach of the Trade Descriptions Act) are boasting on Twitter that they have used their message generator to bombard Boris with 20k emails demanding that Liz Truss be stopped.

I’m fairly sure that Dominic Cummings can smell a message generator a mile off. Even so, if you want to help neutralise the TRA bombardment, please consider contacting Boris yourself using this webform link. It’s limited to 1000 characters so you don’t have to give chapter and verse. It just needs to be something along these lines...

“I support Liz Truss in saying NO to Self ID and YES to maintaining single SEX spaces and services. I hope you are going to support her too.”

We really need to make our voices heard on this.

The government have noted that 70% of the consultation responses were generated reponses/from templates. They see the influence Stonewall etc have in and outside of govt depts. They are not going to be blind to the inevitable push back, nor will anything they say now matter.

They have shown how they cannot have a reasonable debate, but when you start with #nodbebate it's not a surprise.

That's their right, though? I mean, that's how democracy is meant to work. They're entitled to argue their case, and we are ours. The insistence that there's no problem, no not at all, is just same old same old. Difference is, at this point the other arguments are being heard.

Given the job descriptions, I doubt the government will be too worried. None of them sound exactly natural Conservatives.

The only one who makes me angry is a sports coach. How dare she throw women and girls under the bus in this! She should be ashamed. The rest? Meh. Their views were mine, before the statistics on relative crime patterns came to my attention and I started to dig into it. I didn't know on the sports side. I had no idea the gap was so great. I assumed that trans women committed offences at the same rates we do. And I assumed all trans women are transsexuals. I also had no clue that the very definition of being a woman - sex - was under assault.

I tend to think that many of those signatories would hold very different views, if they actually looked into the facts. That's how most of the women I know moved sides. Meanwhile, that letter is both inevitable, and their right in a free society. If only they would concede as much to us!

Absolutely agree. Until the proposals have been translated into law and put on the statute books, it's not a done deal and there are enough woke numpties in the House of Commons to do the TRAs' work for them.

LangCleg warned about institutional capture. The HoC is not immune.

I've emailed my MP (pushing an an open door there but even so...), Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, and I'm just about to start on every member of the Women and Equalities Committee, regardless of their party or stated views.

Just finished writing to my (very woke) Labour MP, Liz Truss and the PM's email form.

This is the first time I've spoken out 'publicly'. I have a young adult daughter who is medically transitioning and have felt too afraid and conflicted to put my feelings on the record like this before.

But now is the time. I can't stay silent any longer.

I’ve written to my MP, he’s a useless Tory but I know from FB that others are writing to him to oppose the dropping of the reforms, but they’re all sending the same letter giving false facts etc.

I’ve no idea if he’ll listen, but he usually follows the Tory whip so hopefully he will in this instance.

To be honest I think that letter undermines their cause more than anything. The "this all sounds reasonable but it's actually transphobic" argument doesn't wash anymore. That crap only worked when politicians knew nothing about the issues.

I just sent this via Teds we form. 996 characters!

Title: Support Liz Truss and defend female-only spaces.

I contact you today to urge you to support Liz Truss’ proposals to ensure that female people of all ages have a right to dignity, privacy and safety.

I have only ever used a ‘mixed sex changing village’ once. While I was naked an adult man lay on the floor and pushed his head under the cubicle door to stare up at me. I was completely helpless, could not open the door because he was blocking up the gap, could not phone for help as my phone was in my bag. All I could was scream until he ran away. The police were called but he was not apprehended. That was 20 years ago and since then I have been careful never to use a gender neutral or unisex space again.
Trans rights lobbyists, who insist that men who identify as women should be allowed in female only spaces exclude many actual women from fully participating in public life.
My daughters should be safer than I was 20 years ago, but the rise in voyeurism, cheap spycam equipment and trans activism means they are more in danger than ever.

Gendered Intelligence had their say in Maria Miller's consultation, and a very priveleged position in that process too.

The consultation has invited the impacted population to respond, and by choosing to spam both the consultation and the considered outcome they are abusing the position they already have. Spamming a democratic process is simply a demonstration of their uncontrollable demanding behaviour and nothing else.

Thank you, DuLang.

I sent this. I had to edit it a couple of times but eventually, got it to just below 1000 characters.

"Please, Prime Minister, back Liz Truss’s proposals to strengthen girls’ and women’s rights to single sex spaces like toilets, changing rooms, prisons, hospital wards, refuges, when they are undressed and vulnerable. Please listen to girls who skip school or refuse water just to avoid gender neutral toilets at school; to women now boycotting M&S and other shops because they no longer feel safe in changing rooms. Please safeguard children by halting experimental medical pathways to block puberty to satisfy the nebulous concept of gender identity. Please listen to the GIDS clinicians who resigned because of their concerns. Please stop more Karen Whites and Katie Dolatowskis from exploiting Stonewall’s version of the Equality Act to prey on women and girls. Please remember why even the Equality Act recognises that there are times when the protected characteristic of sex conflicts with that of gender reassignment and allows single sex exemptions. There are good reasons for those exemptions."

I’m new to this board but just wanted to say I’m halfway through writing to my MP. It’s the first time I’ve ever done so as my interest in politics has wavered over the years. But I feel really really strongly about this. I’m early 30’s with a baby daughter and unfortunately most of my friends are not willing to identify as feminists, this issue either isn’t on their radar or is something they support, which quite frankly TERRIFIES me. Any links to threads that I should take a look at with pointers of who else I can contact and how best to get my points across would be greatly appreciated.

@GrossePois I work for an MP.

Don’t be too long, & please use paragraphs!

Say if you support the right to self ID or not, and you could give reasons why (daughters/ your religion / your right to change in female bodied only spaces etc)
Give your address or they might not write back.
It may take a little while for a response- they get a lot of emails.

If you send my MP an identikit email that’s clearly a cut & paste with nothing personal, you do not get a response. TRAs will not get anywhere doing that. In many cases, the MP won’t even see the emails- a staffer will deal with them.

Individual emails with real life examples are far more powerful.

Should we send to Equalities Minister instead?

I've done both, GiantKitten.

By making it plain that I'm writing to Boris Johnson in his capacity as PM and asking him, as PM, to back Liz Truss, this is a legitimate use of the webform. Even if I don't get a response, my objective is to help neutralise the TRA bombardment by countering their narrative with facts.

The Equalities Minister is Kemi Badenoch and comments she has made in the past suggest to me that she knows only too well what it is to be a woman and a mother and how that impacts on her.

A quick question OhHolyJesus...

The government have noted that 70% of the consultation responses were generated responses/from templates.

The ghastly cut and paste pro self-id response my MP's office has just sent me, said: The consultation itself (on the GRA) received a huge number of responses from the public, with 70% of respondents in favour of reform and self-determination.

This isn't a figure I have seen before - do you think it's anything to do with that 70% generated response. I'd like to be able to counter any inaccuracies.
