I missed the original tweet but from screenshots it looks like Jess Phillips put up something well-meaning, but a bit tone deaf on how yesterday's far-right protesters don't represent who we (the UK) are. OJ has taken it upon himself to tell her how wrong she is, bringing his merry band of trolls with him.

I thought he might have been a bit tired after a full-on week of telling women why they're wrong, but nice to see he's got some energy left eh?

He's a twat. A shockingly misogynist twat.

Collidascope Sun 14-Jun-20 21:16:00

Off topic, but this drives me mad. "Isn't about you or me." Not I.

ScrimpshawTheSecond Sun 14-Jun-20 21:26:48

Gosh, where would women be without Owen Jones to keep us right, eh?

franke Sun 14-Jun-20 21:29:56

He is the epitome of a 'woke scold'. His post certainly has an air of "I hope you've learnt a valuable lesson" about it. What a tool.

twoHopes Sun 14-Jun-20 22:10:33

Owen Jones tells another well meaning person that they're offensive and should shut up. It's classic OJ. He's up there with Farage in his ability to drive a wedge between people. What a tosser.

LockdownLump Sun 14-Jun-20 22:14:05

Urgh god. He is disgusting.

He is going to eat himself eventually.

This. With knobs on.

'Allow me to centre myself in your mentions to note how you shouldn't be centering yourself right now? I will forgive you if are ready to say sorry three hail marys and admit you were wrong because obvs?'

glomerulus Sun 14-Jun-20 22:36:58

I just don't understand what his objective is at this stage. He seems so desperate to be a darling of the left, yet he could start a fight in an empty room. Does he think nobody sees him? Does he think no one notices how every lecture he delivers to a member of the opposite sex drips with condescension?

I think your error here is that you are assuming he now and then carries out a little self-reflection.

Melia100 Sun 14-Jun-20 23:28:00

He's a narcissist.
They don't do self-reflection.

Melia100 Sun 14-Jun-20 23:30:06

All I can say is that with the immense righteousness he feel forced to display at every turn, he must have one hell of a shadow there in the subconscious.

It's almost like he must police others day and night, to avoid looking at what he needs to police in himself.

GCAcademic Sun 14-Jun-20 23:32:42

Is it me or is he getting more like Harrop with every passing day?

FantaOra Sun 14-Jun-20 23:38:22

Despite reading the Guardian for many years although I have stopped now I honestly didn't know who he was until I started seeing his smug mug here. I had obviously put him in the skip this ranting know nothing category years ago and ignored anything he wrote. I gave up the paper at the point most of it was being skipped so he must be cheif role model ranting know nothing over there.

Funny chap.

Fallingirl Sun 14-Jun-20 23:43:17

Is it me or is he getting more like Harrop with every passing day?

Ha. I’m came on here to say exactly that, GC. Maybe we could pit them against each other?

Vargas Sun 14-Jun-20 23:46:10

Completely agree with 'he could start a fight in an empty room'. Insufferable. He reminds me so much of that kid at school who always grassed everyone up and then said it was for the best and you'd thank him later.

donquixotedelamancha Sun 14-Jun-20 23:52:08

Maybe we could pit them against each other?

I'm not sure that would work- has anyone ever seen them in a room together?

I wonder whether Harrop goes into a phone booth, removes his glasses, puts a beige jumper on, rubs some onion in his eyes and comes out as superowen?

FantaOra Sun 14-Jun-20 23:55:34

I think it would be a love match, they could have a lovely wedding. Hayden would be the perfect bridesmade.

donquixotedelamancha Sun 14-Jun-20 23:58:35

Hayden would be the perfect bridesmade.

Since they would both be grooms technically Hayden would have to be the best man.

MingeofDeath Mon 15-Jun-20 01:16:09

@ GCAcademic

Little Owen and Harrop are different cheeks of the same arse

newrubylane Mon 15-Jun-20 02:18:47

@Collidascope my first thought too. So annoying, especially from a journalist.

They both seem to hate women so, yes, they are very similar

He is the epitome of a 'woke scold

That is so true. It is the combination of the 21st century's identity politics with a regressive, 17th century puritanical zeal. And he only ever seems to target women.....

nauticant Mon 15-Jun-20 08:09:39

Apparently tweeting this is Phillips' crime:

Owen Jones is a corrosive manifestation of aspects of modern journalism.
