Asda's new pronoun badges for staff

My BIL who works at our local store has just received this information, he thinks Asda's gone mad. Asda are also funding Diversity Role Models with £100,000 over the next year. Looks as though they're jumping in with both feet.

I can’t think of many times I have ever had to use the pronoun of a supermarket worker so it does scream of “aren’t we great” from Asda trying to score points.

The ask me my pronoun is particularly bad. In the nicest possible way I don’t care about the pronoun of someone I will rarely see and never interact with more than please, thank you and general niceities.

It might be voluntary but I suspect people will end up feeling the pressure. Before long not wearing one will be seen as an aggressive act.

He shouldn’t have shared this information with you, and you most certainly shouldn’t be sharing it on the internet. He can get severely disciplined for sharing company information meant only for colleagues.

Seems reasonable to me. I have a friend who is a very masculine looking and sounding woman (born female, not trans or anything) who gets sick of people assuming that she's male (they do so even when she dresses in a more feminine way, it's quite astounding). There are always going to be people who are outliers, for whom asking is better than assuming

Sorry, but if I was that woman, I can't see how someone asking 'so, are you are you a bloke or a bird then?' is any better to be honest!

I'm guessing that's why they've got the "ask me..." badge. For those who are men on Monday Wednesday and Fridays, and women in Tuesdays, Thursday and weekends. Saves you having to have two badges.
