Another woman murdered

Just seen the news that a lady in Wigan was stabbed to death, in front of her 13 year old daughter, by an ex partner who smashed into her home with a golf club before murdering her.

I despair, I really do. No real debate to be had, how it is still not seen as an epidemic, all these women murdered by ex partners I don't know. I just didn't want it to go unmentioned. RIP Melissa Belshaw.

That's so sad. Her daughter will need a lot of help to get through this.

What would society do if women murdered men at the same rate?

I feel the same despair.

Domestic violence is at an all time high in Wigan at present.

Thank you for mentioning her and her name, so we can remember her - RIP Melissa Belshaw, this is one woman who will think about you a lot.

You are right this is an epidemic. It needs to be called out as such.

Is Lisa Nandy Wigan? Wonder what she has to say about this very obviously male-pattern violence.

It’s the rage, the awful rage. They’ve split up and still not free, in fact more vulnerable.

Male violence. Endemic.

I think men see men's violence levels as the norm and women's as lower (if the comparator is bothered with at all).

If society viewed women's violence level as 'the norm', men's would look as shockingly high as it in fact is.

Thank you for putting that so well, Antibles. I hadn't heard it articulated that way before and it's a useful reframing of the issue.

So sorry for Melissa, her daughter and all who loved her. Thinking too of the brave man who was also stabbed while trying to help Melissa and is now fighting for his own life in hospital. Wishing him a full recovery.

I do want to give a word of praise for the two men who tried to save her, tried to help, and did keep her daughter from also being injured or killed.

Not all men are mindless, violent thugs: some behave decently and even bravely -- thank the deity of your choice.
