Desmond I Amazing in marketing campaign for Claire's

Firstly, have to say I have nothing but sympathy for Desmond, who I believe is being exploited by his parents.

But is this appropriate for a company that sells accessories to teenage girls?

"Retailer of toys and accessories aimed at girls, Claire's, has recruited 12 year old drag act Desmond Is Amazing to do its marketing. A former chair of PIE said he was turned on when Desmond danced sexually for adults. Claire's has deleted this tweet but kept its Facebook post up t.co/tbYJxvrefM "

Claire's just gives the usual "We are inclusive and kind blah blah blah" response to any criticism

This is also an odd decision in that normally if you use a "celebrity" to advertise your products you pick one who the target customers would know and be fond of. Most young girls won't have a clue who Desmond is.

What has he got to do with toys and accessories dressed up like that

He doesn’t look well

You know what pisses me off? Girls are so often viewed negatively for wanting to wear make-up, jewellery and do their hair. But when boys do it they're bloody fabulous. Why choose a boy in an advertising campaign for a shop whose target market is girls?

He looks unwell and very unhappy. What were Claire’s thinking of?

According to Google, Desmond is 12! Looking at that photo, I thought Desmond was around 8.

Is Desmond on blockers? Sad

Another company who haven't done their due diligence.

Weren't social services called several times regarding the sexualisation of this kid? He's the one posing with the murderer under the Rohypnol poster.

Nice look for a teenage girl's shop.

Paedofile information exchange.
I can’t be doing with Claire’s anyway, shite piercing policies, pushing overtly pink crap to girls. Well at least it’s clear what they think makes a woman, sparkly tat.

That old chestnut 'self expression' otherwise known as pornification and most likely unnecessary drugs. Desmond is clearly not a healthy thriving little boy and should not be used in this way. Claires-do some flipping research into his background and why drag is so offensive to women.

Poor kid. Looks like a lady Penelope puppet in that strange wig. Why aren't the parents in jail?

My 7 year old has already grown out of Claire’s - it’s not what young girls want if you got into the store it’s full of blue haired teenage girls, Desmond will play straight to their target audience.

'We're inclusive and kind to adults exploiting children and using them for sexual enjoyment'.

………..….. Jeez.

'Inclusive' has truly become a very dirty word indeed.

Do their marketing people do absolutely NO research? Even a most cursory check would have brought up deeply concerning incidents for this child.

Oh god.

I know it's not his fault bless him . And it's a shame yo have to say this because hes just doing what is asked of him and the problem is obviously not him. But claire's should know better than to indulge the parents in their well i cant say the word as it will get deleted by you know what the word is. The only way to stop the exploitation is to not give the oarebtsbthe business in the first place

That's not Desmond osmt that queen lacticia or something?

Although yes Desmond was taken to an adult venue where very adult things go on and many gay men were horrified.

After a certain time kids arebt allowed in any pub unless they are eating a meal with adults. They arent allowed in the bar though even in family establishments

Yes it is. I've asked HQ to remove it. It's pretty depressing, though, that there is more than one.
