Ok I don't get it - is this discriminating against women who don't self-identify as women? They don't understand the exemptions do they?

WTF. If a sexual abuse survivor requests female staff they should get a woman. Generally they shouldn't have to ask at all since statistically their abuser is most likely to have been male.

StillWeRise Tue 19-May-20 23:08:23

well, if you aren't actually interested in the job you could apply and use your application as a consciousness raising tool

popehilarious Tue 19-May-20 23:08:57

So not available to NB or genderfree women? Even though they may define as being under the trans umbrella?
So they only want the 'right' sort of trans people. Sounds like a hate crime to me.

How is it that they can understand the importance of this to the degree it goes in the advert yet at the same time hand wave it away as if it's nothing?

I don't know how their heads don't swivel off with the cognitive dissonance.

BuffaloCauliflower Tue 19-May-20 23:15:57

WTF? A traumatised child will know if they’re being presented with a man. This is ridiculous, and one circumstance where biology really does matter in the workplace. Horrifying.

spongedog Tue 19-May-20 23:21:09

Presumably a few complaints to the funding bodies and perhaps the local council about breaches of the Equalities Act might help focus their thoughts

Imnobody4 Tue 19-May-20 23:28:31

They actually use the act they are breaking to justify a female only post. Give me strength.

stumbledin Tue 19-May-20 23:28:48

In a way this is almost worse.

They understand that the post should go to a women ie biological female, but are so terrified of the work community in Brighton that they have to sort of pretend that being a biological female isn't really biological but an identity.

But maybe as someone said above, particularly if they are funded by the local authority that they need to correctly word the ad.

The mind games people are now playing, and often because they just dont want to have the trans community start bullying them in public.

sad angry

Heaven help those who go to this organisation for support.

OvaHere Tue 19-May-20 23:31:04

The problem is for these places their funding is dependent on them throwing their female service users under the bus. Orgs that won't comply don't receive the money.

It's all part of the regulatory capture at a higher level. Karen Ingala Smith has spoke at length about this.

OvaHere Tue 19-May-20 23:32:56

They're currently blocking anyone on twitter who is commenting in a negative way.

ApocalypseNowt Tue 19-May-20 23:45:57

Brighton. What a massive surprise hmm

Samtsirch Tue 19-May-20 23:49:54

Would a traumatised child / young person need someone empathetic, non judgmental, supportive, able to listen and support, beyond any thing else ?
Am I missing something ?

Imnobody4 Tue 19-May-20 23:56:49

Samtsirch
Are you suggesting the post should be open to both men and women, and not advertised under the Equality Act exemption?

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets Wed 20-May-20 00:01:19

Have they changed it now? I can only see this.

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets Wed 20-May-20 00:04:01

Oh never mind, I see it’s in the main text not the job description. I think they are arse covering and will dismiss anyone who isn’t an actual woman. But maybe I’m giving them too much credit.

I don't think they don't sort of pretend because they worry about funding, they believe it. They have had a self-identifing policy re users and staff for a long time. It wouldn't surprise me if it's supported by adult service users. Not on to be fucking around with children's minds.

stumbledin Wed 20-May-20 00:25:17

Ova I dont think this ad is in any way about getting trans women into posts. If it was they wouldn't refer to the EA.

It is worse than that. They literally cant bear to be seen recognising that women are biological females.

Funders who want groups to accept trans women for post will insist that the advertising makes that clear. They want the full woke acreditation for doing this.

This is about the mind games of trans activist bullying. Knowing that you mean and want women (biological females) but are too intimidated, brain washed to say it.

Whatsnewpussyhat Wed 20-May-20 00:33:17

How can they claim to want female only applicants then say they would particularly welcome applications from T women, who are male, and even with a GRC would legally be excluded due to their biology.

OhHolyJesus Wed 20-May-20 07:30:56

I read it as they only want applications from transwomen.

It says (or said) self identifying women only, so that excludes:

Men
Women (who are gender free or not)
Non binary people of both sex

This is the first case I've seen where the EA has been applied for an exemption to only have trans women apply for a vacancy.

You can say you welcome applications from BAME, LGBT etc but to say you only want applications from one group is discrimination unless you have a good reason, which they do, but they wrote 'self identifying' rather than biological.

Am I wrong?

Isitnextyearyet Wed 20-May-20 07:44:11

I understand it as anyone who identifies as a women whatever the biology.

Isitnextyearyet Wed 20-May-20 07:44:49

sorry - a woman

MiddlesexGirl Wed 20-May-20 07:49:59

That's how I understand it but its effect is to encourage self-ID and trans women and discourage biological women. Remind me never to move to Brighton.

JulieBindelAteMyHamster Wed 20-May-20 07:55:01

Would a traumatised child / young person need someone empathetic, non judgmental, supportive, able to listen and support, beyond any thing else ?

An abused child has had their boundaries violated in the ugliest way. They deserve support from counsellors who embody integrity and trustworthiness, not men who 'self-identify' as women
