TRA on twitter tweeting a Mumsnet advertiser, saying Mumsnet is transphobic and tweeting opinion pieces at the the advertiser Audible.

"We absolutely support and believe in trans rights, thanks for bringing this to our attention, we're going to look into this."

twitter.com/mimmymum/status/1260179162297401344

I looked for a thread, if there is one already let me know and i'll ask for this to be deleted for being a duplicate.

This must be a headache for mumsnet. Their advertisers admin challenging them over the views of Twitter randoms.

But I'm pretty certain the CFO would probably override the person who was in charge of their Twitter account.

A) Advertise on a forum which attracts 12 to 14 million unique users per month or,

B) don't.

I really think they are annoyed about all the sunlight in the last couple of weeks and are now desperately trying to punish FWR/Mumsnet.

Will Audible also be pulling the audio versions of these books? It would be quite hypocritical to punish Mumsnet for allowing critique of transgender ideology on the website while hosting audio versions of books which do the same.

Depends if you think 'trans rights' equates with compelled speech and forcible suppression of female rights I suppose. It's a (probably intentionally) highly misleading and emotive phrase that doesn't mean what most people thinks it means.

I hope as on the last Twitter attempt it's made clear by posters who are trans that this is the usual few suspects from an extremist political lobby who are only pro the trans people who are politically obedient to them. Endlessly exhausting and unpleasant people being endlessly exhausting and unpleasant.

I hope Audible look into it, the co-op gave a great statement when targeted.

What did co-OP say?

Was that before or after arla

I bet Minimum was one of those girls who always told tales on her friends at school. You can imagine her straining with her arm up into the air saying "miss, miss, Stacey's drawn on her book." I bet she was really unpopular.

OhHolyJesus · 12/05/2020 19:04

Co-op was a while ago, before flora I think...

Arla was just a month or so ago?

Basically they never give up, they are determined to shut Mumsnet.

I have 300 audible books - have been a member over 12 years. They were better off ignoring these tweets.

popehilarious · 12/05/2020 19:06

Ooh, I've got an Audible account! If they believe in limiting free speech about legal and biological facts then I don't think they're a company I'll support any more - especially one who sell BOOKS. I'll wait and see.

Could you use this thread to keep us updated of the brands we should support? (For those of us not on Twitter.)

I’ve already switched to Arla milk and flora products (and emailed to tell them why).

Speaking of TRAs picking on Mumsnet, a peculiar thread deletion message on the Comerford thread:

Message from MNHQ: Lads, we're getting a billion reports and tbh, we're not sure that we're the place for this. How about thrashing it all out somewhere else? We're going to remove this thread now. Love and peace, MNHQ.

Lads?

And the thread was about TRAs bullying a detransitioner.

Arla are a co-op too.

Pop I just did a quick google search for Audible Mumsnet, there are a fair few threads and it seems to be very popular with Mumsnetters.

I'll wait and see as I love using audible but I will cancel my account if I see any anti women suck up to the TRA's nonsense.

Report
exLtEveDallas · 12/05/2020 19:15

Is it Mankymum again? It’s easier just to ignore her - remember she’s the idiot that took a trans woman to court and lost. She’s just smarting and even the other TRAs think she’s pathetic.

On the other hand, Arla are doing brilliantly after her last failure, so maybe Audible will too Grin

Juno Dawson's Tweet quoted by Mermaids' Mimmymum presumably refers to current thread discussing recent Guardian interview.

OP RoyalCorgi wrote:

"Guardian interview with Juno Dawson
The Guardian is once more peddling male fantasies of what a teenage girl is:

//www.theguardian.com/books/2020/may/11/juno-dawson-trans-alice-wonderland-interview-spice-girls

Dawson has written a novel based on Alice in Wonderland, but with a trans lead character:

'Wonderland is also a wake-up call to anyone who believes gender reassignment might be a happy-ever-after. Alice has recently returned to school after three months in hospital following a suicide attempt. “While I’m delighted with my perky little boobs,” she says, “I was profoundly disappointed that my urge to cut myself didn’t vanish with the first milligram of oestrogen to pass my lips.” Her problems, Dawson points out, are those of all too many young women. “When I’m at the Hay book festival or at Yale, these teenagers come into my signing queues and they are scarred. It must be talked about because it permanently affects girls.”'

Yes, teenage girls are really delighted with their perky little boobs, you misogynist little creep."

exLt I really don't like posting about twitter on this board, but i think something like this is important for everyone to know about.

R0 Did someone call Dawson that, I read the thread but didn't see if someone did.

NotTerfNorCis · 12/05/2020 19:37

No one called Dawson that, but some said that the sexualized nature of the writing, and an adult male projecting fantasies of how teenage girls think, wasn't appropriate for young readers.

Can someone not sue her for libel?

I mean, it isn't just TRAs, but overall the entire thing of social media to bullying. Whether it is 'cancel' culture, or targeting the financial sources of people/organizations you don't like personally. It's pretty sickening.
