Thread from years ago, MNer as trans to flummox employer

A few years ago a mumsnetter decided to tell her employer she id'd as trans, without changing her name, clothes etc. There was some consternation and bemusement from HR and then I lost the thread. Does anyone know what I'm talking about and what happened to the thread?

TIA Smile

It was Somerville. Not sure but think the threads were deleted but she had made her point but was worried about press.

Ooh I miss Somerville. Is she still about?

I don't think @Somerville identified as 'trans' but as something like 'gender neutral' ... I'm not sure that was exactly it but essentially a label which would be accurate for a GC woman.

It was agender. As in not having a gender identity.

I thought it was gender-free?

Ah! Yes, it might have been gender free.

#Genderfree on twitter went wild, I think it was to do with either an application for something at work or an award that was specific to trans people, so she self ID's as genderfree as that comes under the Stonewall umbrella.

Good old Somerville's

That was it, gender free. Somerville was ace. If anyone knows zir? Zie? Zem? I would love an update.

Yes I remember that too Somerville identified as gender free (but possible kept pronouns as she/her) was a wonderful idea to highlight the madness it was for a works award I think.

I can't get it to link but searching Genderfree brings up the thread.

I’ve also done this at work. We have to fill out an annual 7 page form on gender choices and what we think about the gender inclusion policies, etc. I scribbled Copious notes all over mine rather than just tick boxes and handed it back in....was only a few weeks after I joined. They weren’t sure what to say.

Anyway I’m now on the inclusion committee. Grin

So did she win the prize at work?

Can't believe that was just a year ago. I feel like we've been fighting this madness for decades (I know some people have).

I agree that it feels like a lot longer than a year ago... yikes.

Thanks for tagging me Errol.

I've let that company now so I can say a bit more than I did at the time, if anyone has any questions.

JacobReesMogadishu Getting on inclusion committee - brilliant!

I was only thinking of you last week Somerville and wondered what came of the award. Did you get it in the end?

Did your leaving relate to your gender identity? Were they not so inclusive an employee after all?
