I don't see it either!

Usually when accounts get deleted by Twitter it's a different message though "This account has been suspended" even when it's a permanent suspension.

I got "this account doesn't exist". Shit.

A whole lot of crap blew up after Jameela Jamil deleted that tweet about Jessica Eaton's book. Kathleen Stock lectured people on being nice. And then the conversation moved onto "anonymous accounts" on twitter, which Julie seems to have a bee in her bonnet about. They both pissed off a lot of women. Then they both closed their accounts, but KS at least is now back but with her account locked.

I continually wonder whether a person seeking to have a serious presence in the media should be on twitter.

I have no idea what sort of drama has happened recently, I just hope she didn't have her account suspended for being a feminist like so many others.

When did that all happen @SunsetBeetch? I'm having a break fom twitter.

I saw the comments from Kathleen Stock about the comments about Jameela J. In fact, I was about to post screen shots of the tweets from people telling Jameela to apologise and stop supporting transphobes. I decided it would not make any difference so I didn’t. But she was incorrect in saying there wasn’t a very well mixed presence on that twitter thread.

What happened with Jameela ? I saw her tweet saying she had ordered J. Eaton’s book, followed by some v amusing comments.

Yesterday NightLion

SirVix she tweeted that she was going to buy Jessica Taylor's new book. Cue some piss-taking from GC twitter, and some "But she's a transphobe!" from TRA twitter. Then Jameela deleted that tweet.

I saw the “Who will break it to her?” Type tweets underneath hers. V amusing. I didn’t see any of the fallout, as I don’t follow her, I follow someone who retweeted her.

There have been underlying issues in GC twitter with some of the non blue tick accounts feeling that Stock, Bindel and others have a superior attitude, and it all blew up again following that.

@Sunsetbeech do you think she deleted because of an argument with another GC feminist? It doesn't seem like her, she is very robust. Not that I know her in person!

Thank you @sunsetBeetch for the update. The sniping between the blue ticks and others has been going on for a while. I'm frankly

I'm not sure Anonymous. I'm sure she's had worse thrown at her

Oh no, it's very disappointing that big name feminists slag off anonymous accounts like this. There are very good reasons for women being anonymous. It's not the first time this has come up either.

While I think that it might have been more prudent to actually let Jameelas tweet pass without comment (as it supported the book which was good step), I did find this tweet to be a bit harsh towards a community who has given support in the past.

I didn't know Julie Bindel had gone. I know Doc Stock flounced after telling everyone off for laughing at Jamil. I was surprised by Kathleen Stock telling all the GC women we should be better tbh, felt like she was our mum and we were being treated like teens. It was all a bit 'be kind' for me.

I've been on Mumsnet too long for that shit. Every so often posters come on and ask why we're so mean and get told to fuck off to Nethuns. Same with Twitter. Twitter is the wild West, not for sensitive souls. If you're an outspoken sleb you should know how it works.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 29/04/2020 15:04

For the record, I didn't tweet to JJ though I did laugh.

Report
SunsetBeetch · 29/04/2020 15:13

It's like we're expected to bend over backwards with gratitude towards Jamil too. I think not, she's awful and does feminism a lot of harm with her woke posturing (which is really all about her and her career).

I think there has been a bit of in-fighting between various GC groups. A few people's trust betrayed (supposedly). A bit of a right - left wing divide too. Seems to me that this happens once in a while though and then things calm down and people shrug and get over it. Bindel has disappeared before of her own accord and has then come back (she needs Twitter, obvs!).

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 29/04/2020 15:32

Considering TRAs did challenge Jameela and she did then delete the Tweet, it seemed a bit misplaced to blame 'nasty GC women' for making Jameela delete it. Jameela (like many others) has shown time and again which side she thinks she needs to placate. It's not the GC side.

Also, JK Rowling completely and unambiguously supported Jess' book. It's not as though Jameela was the only high profile supporter and that the book will be irreparably damaged by Jameela caving.

Report
LadyBBKing · 29/04/2020 15:37

And I think JK Rowling's support far outweighs that from a clothes-horse-actress! Was brilliant.
