Dawn Butler has said violent transitioning male prisoners ‘should never’ be allowed in women’s jails, as a Labour row over trans rights rages on.

But when pressed for her position today, Ms Butler told Metro.co.uk: ‘There are bodies and advisory bodies within the judicial system that everybody would need to go through before that would even be considered and that (trans women prisoners in a female prison) should never happen.’ Asked directly if she disagreed with backbencher Ms Nandy’s stance, she added: ‘Yes… the prisons service has a separate area anyway and they have discretionary ways of dealing with trans prisoners. ‘So the prison service already have all of those considerations.’

(Not saying I believe this as anything other than a party strategy but thought I would post as we monitor Labour seesawing all over the place.)

What this should tell you is how big this story is now, and how it is clearly having a significant impact. This is pure damage limitation.

Does she still think babies have no sex though, or has she changed her mind on that?

Hmm. Narrative change..out of the blue given yesterday(?) she claimed babies don't have a sex...

If you ever needed a illustration of how TRAs live to fling the word “transphobia” around to try to shut people up, just count the number of times the word appears in this sentence:

The Labour Campaign for Trans Rights . . . told Metro.co.uk: ‘We believe that due to the transphobic nature of society, a culture that is transphobic, or at the very least non-confrontational to transphobic views, is enmeshed within the fabric of the Labour Party, and our campaign seeks to help confront the issue of transphobia head on.’

So where are we going to put them?

Can they move in with Dawn and the giraffes.

I think she is moving on to ferrets.

'You can’t have people who feel that they can’t attend a meeting because they are scared or worried.’ says Butler.

She's not even thinking about women when she says this, is she?

As far as I'm aware, that's a complete denial of the actual policy which says if they have a GRC, they go to a female prison. Unless, I believe, they are a category A offender, because there is no such accommodation to be found in the female estate.

So, she is literally rolling back on the current policy.

I wonder how that's going to go down...

Honestly it’s like a parody now, they look ridiculous.
I am sure that before long these numpties are going to be pointing at each other with accusations of transphobia.
It’s like a competition of who can be the least transphobic ever, over you know being an effective opposition, or giving a shit about or holding the government to account over the NHS, food banks, housing etc, who cares about that when you can be talking about giraffes or braying to get rapists into women’s prisons Hmm.
Boris Johnson must be pissing himself.

Talk about mixed messages, Dawn.

I saw my Tory MP some 18 months ago and raised concerns over men being housed in the female estate.

Even though I do believe she is GC, I could tell my MP viewed the prison debate as being quite removed from her everyday life, so I am at least pleased to see more exposure being given to this very important and very real situation of dangerous and predatory men like Karen White accessing and sexually and violently assaulting women who are at their most vulnerable.

I don't think there's even been a bigger shambles in politics than the Labour Party at the moment.

If you're being criticised by Dawn Butler for being too pro trans, as Lisa Nandy is, that's surely a badge of honour.

But what does Butler mean by 'a transwoman is a woman but she must never be put in a women's jail'?

And if you thought this craziness was just confined to the leader and deputy leader contenders, look at this. A group of Labour MPs have got together to show their support for trans rights by wiggling in front of a camera while holding the trans flag: twitter.com/zarahsultana/status/1229459634559291393

There would be a huge incentive for every male prisoner to declare themselves a woman.

what if they all did it?

Lord above. Butler will surely get a caning for that from her lobbyists so things must be bad if even she's backtracking.

I see in that article Ms Butler also said it is ‘vital’ that the next leader or second in command is female.

Did she though?

The Metro headline says "Labour split as Dawn Butler says trans men ‘should never be put in women’s jails’"

Dawn Butler has said violent transitioning male prisoners ‘should never’ be allowed in women’s jails, as a Labour row over trans rights rages on."

I have no idea what she means.

This would be so much easier to understand if she hadnt asserted that trans women are women , trans men are men & babies are born without a sex.

2018 TRA Conference where Dawn Butler MP (Shadow Women & Equalities) was keynote speaker was a who's who of prominent trans lobbyists.

Ms Butler doubled down on her support for the campaign this morning, saying that the groups named in the pledge had ‘displayed some transphobia’. But she admitted that she had to ‘clarify’ some of the ‘troubling’ wording and claimed that the wider trans debate had been made deliberately ‘toxic’ by the government.

You know what's toxic, Dawn? Insinuating that WPUK and LGB Alliance are hate groups. That didn't come from the government. Although I see you have now downgraded from 'hate' to 'some transphobia'.
