Leaving Labour

I left the Labour Party this week. For some months they've been emailing me to remind me to renew my membership and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. Then this week with the whole #expelme thing, I decided to write and tell them why. No reply (yet).

I've seen lots of other people mention leaving too - recently or some while ago. Did you tell the membership people why? Did you get a response?

And respect to the women who've stayed to fight on - fwiw I think you've made the stronger choice. My circumstances mean I can't do anything constructive like going to local meetings and engaging with other members, so i felt like my membership ended up as tacit support for a lot of misogynistic nonsense, and so withdrawing it was the most active thing I could do. The people I know personally who are still in the party seem to have drunk the koolaid or to be so terrified of anyone thinking they haven't that they don't mention feminist issues any more in case it's a dog whistle. I guess I'll try to look out for ways to support GC Labour women in the future.

I was never a member but always a supporter. My brother is a Labour Councillor and my SIL ran for Parliament. They've lost the plot and my vote.

I left after Corbyn won the second leadership contest. Reason for leaving was nothing to do with gender critical issues - rather Momentum, Corbyn is an idiot and I disagree with Labour's extreme left wing policies. Which got even more extreme after I left.

I don't think I will ever rejoin.

It is terrible that all the candidates have fallen for this crap. Maybe they are just in ignorant ‘be nice’ stage and can be turned?!

I’ve been voting Tory for awhile now, though I’m not convinced the large majority they have will be a good thing in the long run. However for heaven’s sake Labour are asleep at the wheel!! They should be translating political competence into providing a voice for those who badly need one. They shouldn’t be chasing the trends and whims of what the general population are currently caring about, they should be doing the analysis and LEADING us on what needs sorting first.

I really do despair at the moment.

I'm not quite sure why you would leave without voting? Keir Starmer and Lisa Nandy are both significantly better candidates than RLB so something will be achieved by voting for them. Personally I thought the pledges Keir signed as opposed to the others had some kind of basis for reasonable compromise - I think reaction to them was inflamed by anger over the other pledges.
