Widely reported story yesterday - couldn't see it on here? Maybe lost among upcoming angst over the two big trial verdicts today?

Apologies if already a thread on this elsewhere

I hope that this is useful to the people bringing this action - op-ed in the Wall St Journal by Emma Hilton (Fond of Beetles) and Colin Wright:

The guardian are whining about the mean c** girls.

Lordfrontpaw Fri 14-Feb-20 18:28:05

The guardian is whining...

MarchDaffs Fri 14-Feb-20 18:29:34

More power to the girls.

Troels Fri 14-Feb-20 18:42:07

Yay girls. Good luck to them.

xxyzz Fri 14-Feb-20 18:57:34

Yes, the Guardian reported it here:

www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/feb/13/transgender-athletes-girls-sports-high-school

Too much focus on "Trans girls condemn discrimination" but a minor miracle that the Guardian reported it at all.

Lordfrontpaw Fri 14-Feb-20 18:58:34

They (the guardian) used the offensive c- word (not cunt).

BelleHathor Fri 14-Feb-20 19:02:08

Hope that they win, so proud of the girls, this is real actual bravery!

@Lordfrontpaw

Interesting - I prefer c**t to c*s

Given how hard we fought for Title VII so that women and girls could play intermural school sports, just as boys always had, it is outrageous to see it being used to turn women and girls sports into mixed sex competitions.

MarchDaffs Fri 14-Feb-20 19:44:52

This sort of shit from the Guardian is precisely why I refuse to give them any money. I'm to the left, and some of their content is decent, but I'm just not going to respond to any of their appeals to financial support while they continue to shit all over women in this way.

MrsSnippyPants Fri 14-Feb-20 19:50:22

Those ‘transgender’ athletes are not being prevented from participating in sport. The boys are being required to participate in the correct category for their sex, that is all.

slipperywhensparticus Fri 14-Feb-20 19:54:39

Its preventing girls from getting scholarships in the USA no wonder they are mad this is their future

bd67thSaysReinstateLangCleg Fri 14-Feb-20 20:17:49

OP, I think you should ask MNHQ to retitle your thread. Reason being that these girls aren't suing to "block participation of transgender athletes", they are suing to ensure that transgender athletes compete in their correct sex class like everyone else has to. It's really important that we don't slip into transactivist language because they frame being treated like everyone else as a denial of rights and they use phrases like "blocked", "barred", etc to do this.

RuffleCrow Fri 14-Feb-20 20:25:02

Marvellous that Selina Soule and her legal team are taking this on. Her matter of fact, straight talking is a breath of fresh air. #YesDebate

I know people who train in the state’s and it’s a know phenomena - which is viewed as an unfair practice and a bit of a joke.

A quick me-rail to say that I agree (albeit OT for this thread) tho' I don't know where the discussion belongs. Bunbury tho' it doesn't feel like the spirit of that. Sibling of Bunbury?

Given the difference in respect afforded gender critical views in the States, and here, those girls are astonishingly brave. It's bad enough in the UK - it's hideous, over the Pond. Bless them for standing for women's rights at such personal cost. I admire their courage, and their willingness to stand for women and girls.

They're another brick removed from the male supremacist wall. And each and every act of courage deserves recognition. You are not alone. We see you. We thank you. And we admire you. flowers

Antibles Fri 14-Feb-20 21:20:57

Very brave and I fervently hope they win.

*Teen runners sue to block trans athletes from girls' sports
Trans girls condemn discrimination as families of three cis girls claim unfairness in federal case*

just shocking reporting from the guardian. when the fuck did we agree to be called cis? it should be: boys who identify as girls insist on forcing their way into girls sports- girls resist.

really pleased to learn dh has been paying some subscription to the guardian- we're going to cancel with pleasure

Lordfrontpaw Fri 14-Feb-20 23:25:17

No it’s the expected ‘reporting’ from the guardian.

GCAcademic Fri 14-Feb-20 23:29:05

I'd prefer it if the Guardian used the word "cunt". It would be a far more honest reflection of their attitude towards women.

AnneShirleyBlythe Fri 14-Feb-20 23:31:08

Trying to make it seem as if the cheating males are being discriminated against because they are blackhmm

SisyphusLangClegRocks Fri 14-Feb-20 23:46:17

Glad Avasarala called him out on it. It's disgusting the way they compare black women to men.
