(385 Posts)I have no words. Reports from Joani Walsh and Maya Forstater at the Trial in St Albans

First 3 Screenshots of Joani's thread:
This is truly chilling. Public Order offences have always had the potential for state oppression. That was raised when they first came in.
The judges comment about “teaching children to be kind” is vile. I teach my children to be truthful and stick up for what is right even if you’re on your own. Kindness does not mean allowance of gaslighting.

Battle on. Its all we can do. A man has already destroyed me and my career so I’m up for annoying the establishment.
Let's just consider whom we are asked to 'be kind' to: a serial litigator that is known to have appeared in Court at least 11 times to defend *self from 20+ criminal charges, including fraud, and deception, and violent affray (assault with a golf club).
This person tells Mumsnet (👋) looking for women to harass and intimidated * has tweeted statements described as racist, sexist, and homophobic.
Be kind? In the immortal words of Sweary Godmother, "Fuck kind".

Was this magistrates court?
This was St Albans, not sure if Crown or Mags Court
Dr Em posted photos from outside the Magistrate's Court in St Albans
Surely principles ruled in judgement in judicial review in the High Court binds magistrates?
The sentencing is a joke. £1000??
How funny that one of the related articles was this crime. £175.

Magistrates will be at sea with this quite frankly. Unless there were legally qualified mags, they are just advised on matters of law by a court clerk. When I was involved in family/child care law, the mags were notorious for duff decisions..
I don’t recall ever hearing of any Male in court being told that, ‘We teach our children to be kind.’
It sounds like a Sunday School telling off. Infantilising and adult.
Bring on the appeal.
Creepy. Also, if the onus is on being kind, not being honest or factual, that's worrying.
So some of you might know a bit about this process? Please help me out! is it possible that this Mag's decision might be overruled, wry Harry's JR? Why is the Judge referred to as a Judge, rather than a Mag?
I just saw a head explodes giff on twitter. Seemed to sum it up for me. Not funny though. Scarey as hell.
I am beyond words. This is appalling
It's terrifying.
There's a big, long thread of updates on both Scottow and the Fair Cop JR. You can find it, here: 14.02.20 Live updates on Harry and Kate’s cases HERE http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3822585-14-02-20-Live-updates-on-Harry-and-Kate-s-cases-HERE
Personally, it's useful to separate them out, even though they are relevant to each other. And show how differently our legal system treats men and women
Bloody hell. Right, well, time to donate for the appeal then, this was a very poor decision (from someone who I'm assuming hasn't ever actually spent time on twitter and seen what is regularly written between strangers, let alone from the accuser in this process)
I am hoping that, as with Maya's case, the publicity Kate's case will garner, losing in tbis patently ridiculous way against such a vile individual, will bring this issue to do many more people than had she won. I know that's small comfort to Kate, but rendering Hayden's victory a pyrrhic one is the most important thing now.
Please let there be an appeal, I'll be donating
I just saw something interesting, on Twitter, which might explain why Kate's decision was taken by a lower-tier Judge (and why an appeal is likely to succeed?)
