The number of women killed by a current or former partner has surged by nearly a third, fresh figures have revealed, as overall numbers of female victims of homicide hit a 14-year-high.

There were 80 women killed by a partner or ex in the year to March 2019, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said, an increase of 27% from the previous year.

And figures showed the total number of female victims of homicide – that is murder, manslaughter and infanticide – increased from 220 to 241, the second annual increase and the highest number since the year ending March 2006.

So what do Labour leadership contenders intend to do?

This is so bloody depressing but sadly not surprising. Women hating is in quite acceptable nowadays and no one fears being called a sexist so they are quite gleefully sexist, no consequences. Porn culture dehumanises women and girls. No one, bar a few proper feminists, fight this. Too busy carving up women's rights and trying to out queer each other. Meanwhile women and girls suffer as we always have.

Depends what kind of women tbh. I won’t take time out of my life to march alongside people who tell me not to centre my female biology in my feminism.

This is a sad measure of what we have been feeling about attitudes to women. The increase is particularly amongst older and young women and girls ie the most vulnerable.

Labour won’t do a thing. I wonder if trans women are included in this stat or is that only in perpetrator stats?

slippery sounds like you’re in a terrible predicament. Keep your friends around you and keep on at the police. Hope you’re OK and stay safe Flowers

Jesus, Slippery. I wish I could say something more reassuring than 'it's still rare' -- which it is, even though every single case is appalling.

Glad your friends are aware. Can you make him aware that they are aware, so to speak?
