Harry Miller in The Times

Harry Miller speaks in The Times about how the police have adopted Stonewall policies, leading to the insanity of crime non crimes

Speaking ahead of the judgment on the case, which is expected early next month, he said: “I am pro-police. I do not think that the people in the police force have looked at this and thought how can we become totalitarian? “In trying to do the right thing and be inclusive, they’ve done absolutely the wrong thing because they sold out on the core principle of not being political. I think that in so doing they’ve subcontracted out their critical thinking to Stonewall [the lobby group for LGBT rights]

The article also cites 27 police forces have recorded 87,000 hate incidents in 5 years which are not crimes Why are the police investigating non crimes, while failing to investigate actual crimes? It also cites the school issue

Meanwhile, Sarah Phillimore, a barrister advising Fair Cop, warned that new police and Crown Prosecution Service guidelines will criminalise schoolchildren aged from 11 to 16 for expressing doubts about gender ideology.

Thanks for the link.

Great there is the coverage but yes - shame they haven’t referenced the CPS school hate crime guidance.

The guidance is currently restricted - perhaps there will be increased media scrutiny when we can read it.

The comments to the article are interesting.

I did chuckle at WokeBloke’s comment:

‘’This gender identity lunacy knows no bounds. The only genders essential to our species are the two associated with procreation. Everything else is recreation.’’

Agreed. But surely there is a recreational aspect in trying to procreate???!!! Sex (intercourse not biological this time) should be enjoyable as well as functional!

Thanks NotBad.

I am so grateful to Harry and FairCop for pursuing this. They really did pick the wrong person to silence.

I should imagine restricting the guidance would be red rag to a bull. Hopefully many journalists are contacting friendly teachers and will shortly be perusing every detail of the new schools CPS package.

And absolutely, Mossy. I think the police have got way more than they bargained for. Harry comes across as affable and sensible and though he’s clearly outraged, he sounds so reasonable that he will be very hard to challenge. Also as an ex police officer, he’s probably not going to get accusations of being anti-police. Humberside police could not have picked a better (worse?) person to prod if they’d gone out and selected him deliberately.

Absolutely. Have you seen the Triggernometry interview with him? It is superb. He is an articulate, passionate defender of freedom of speech and his analysis of why the upper echelons of the police have succumbed to Stonewall is insightful. Harry Miller's case highlights the serious threat to freedom of speech and democracy when the police are investigating and recording crime non crimes The more publicity this gets, the better.

The CPS guidelines going into our schools is serious cause for concern - police should not be policing school children's thoughts or discussions. Bloody thought police in our children's schools.

It really is, it's absolutely shocking. One of the things which strikes me is that this is happening in an advanced Western democracy I have always thought that an advanced legal system is dependent on clarity about what constitutes crime Many of us with experience beyond the West thought of this as a defining characteristic. Professor Selina Todd is quoted in the DM as saying this threat to freedom of speech also threatens democracy. She is absolutely right. Enlightenment values are facing an existential threat from authoritarian zealots.

Bernard I too have been wondering & worrying about the delay to the verdict. I feel as if it doesn't go in HM's favour it'll be because there has been a lot of political heavy-handed goings-on behind curtains.

clarity about what constitutes crime
Under ECHR, art 7 (part of UK domestic law - HRA):
No one shall be held guilty of any criminal offence on account of any act or omission which did not constitute a criminal offence under national or international law at the time when it was committed.
The law has to be clear.

I'm getting worried about the verdict too. This is really pulling at a loose thread, it will unravel so much of the badly thought out hate crime/social cohesion agenda.

Report
TheShoesa · 26/01/2020 11:52

There is likely to be an appeal whichever way it goes, though, isn't there?

From the live tweeting it seemed so clear cut and the delay is certainly a worry. I do think that if it goes against Fair Cop's case midcentury is right and that it will be due to heavy handed tactics behind closed doors.

Fingers crossed that the delay is because each time the finding in Fair Cop's favour gets rebuffed by higher powers, the law is found to be HM's side and they have to try another approach.
