Sam Smith's 'feminine self'

Sam's back spouting more sexist claptrap:

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-7765891/Sam-Smith-reveals-feeling-vulnerable-releasing-new-music-feminine-self.html

Sam explained the reason for being "scared": 'Being my feminine self in this world that we're in, I mean the music industry can be a bit homophobic, a bit sexist at times,

'So being feminine like this in the way I move and dance and am, it feels quite scary at times but is worth it.'

Sam then goes on to promote more regressive female stereotyping:

After checking out the size of presenter Symon's heeled boots, Sam said: 'I don't know how you girls do it, I can't go out dancing in heels ... Red carpet, I can do it all day. But singing live in heels? It's impossible.'

Gosh, Sam Smith looks so scared dancing around in public in his underpants

Homophobic & sexist? The concept of non-binary is homophobic & sexist, Sam. If you really want to be brave & stunning, wear whatever the hell you want AS A MAN.

Rich privileged white man claims oppression because it’s the only thing his money can’t buy him.

Sam, you are a flamboyant and fabulous gay man - just own it.
Saying you are half female makes absolutely no sense (unless you have one ovary and one testicle? A true medical marvel).

Kudos to the DM for trying with the they/them pronouns. Unfortunately common sense and logical use of language inadvertently reasserted itself for a second in the middle of the piece.

"The star then got everybody laughing when he was asked by Tony Fly why he was giving the gig to another singer by replying: 'I've got it, been there done that, got the Oscar - only joking!'."

Wouldn't it have been great if someone challenged the music industry for being homophobic, if that is the case.

For decades (Freddie Mercury) there have been gay men making hit songs, Elton John has always been flamboyant and glamorous in his attire. He's trying to be original at something, it could have been done so much better.

Oh shit, this captures it perfectly. Saving for later use.

Sam Smith is hilarious and only shows up the absurdity of all this. I'm starting to wonder if Sam's not secretly on our side.

I really miss men who weren't afraid to break the gender stereotypes without claiming that it makes them a woman.....I mean, can you imagine Bowie or Freddie Mercury moaning on like this?

I honestly don't get it. It's like Sam Smith has never heard of Freddie Mercury or David Bowie or any of the other dozens of male artists around in the 70s and 80s. It's utterly bizarre!

I would have respect for him if he just got on with what he is doing. But all this talk about his 'feminine side' and being 'non-binary' and all that shite it's so offensive.

I certainly can't. End the misogyny. I'd like progression please, not regression.

Me too Smem
straight and gay male artists like Martin Gore, Michael Stipe, Marc Almond, Andy Bell wear what they want with nobody batting an eyelid.

I can't help but think there's a marketing team behind Smith, giving duff advice and being homophobic and sexist in their approach. Music should speak for itself.

Otherwise, Sam's just daft and gullible.

I just wish men in the public eye would shut up for a day. Just give us a break from their utter narcissism (obligatory NAMALT).

Imagine this is your big concern - being 'feminine' - whatever the hell that means - as a pop star. Christ, its so solipsistic.

It's like the 70s and 80s never happened!

Those of us who grew up with men in make up etc. being the norm (and looking absolutely gorgeous it), find this all incredibly regressive. It's like we've leapt back to the 50s when men and real men and women know their (feminine) place.

I follow 80s pin up Marilyn on Twitter and he is one of the original 'genderbenders', as they were called at the time, who is fabulous on this issue (and deserves some lurve on here, as he takes a lot of flack for it).

Oh Sam, you're so groundbreaking in your slightly stacked block heel boot. I mean, no man has ever worn any kind of heel before. Ever.

Seriously, how can he come out with this horseshit with a straight face?

Exactly...... I was a 90s indie/mosher kid and virtually all the male artists I followed were way more flamboyant, androgynous and generally breaking taboos and boundaries than Sam Smith.... and were hugely successful with it. Brian Molko, Marilyn Manson.... I cant really think of any front men that weren’t wearing eyeliner tbh....!

Yes, Marilyn sees right through this new new wave of men claiming to be women (or part female, part male, part penis earring) on the basis that they like wearing heels.

I'm still Confused about the actor who plays Lando in Star
Wars saying that his 'gentler side' means he has 'feminine' traits and is therefore 'gender fluid'. He's 82 FFS and should know better.

Good afternoon, all. While we are happy for you to discuss people who are in the public eye, we're just dropping in with a reminder that personal attacks are not on. Unless we can keep the discussion on the right side of our Talk Guidelines, we'll have to take it down, so please bear that in mind when posting.
Thank you kindly!
