She seems to have disappeared!

@DrLouiseMoody have you been kaboomed and deplatformed? Or just in hiding - hope you're OK.

I know you're facing quite a bit of shit, so solidarity & strength

She appears to have deactivated, not been suspended.

She's been complaining about classism within feminism over the last couple of days (a position I have a lot of sympathy with) so perhaps she's just deactivated to avoid endless rows?

Dolorabelle Mon 02-Dec-19 09:07:47

Oh, that's a relief. Hope she's taking a break, and otherwise all is well. I know she's facing some tough stuff.

Best wishes, Louise! flowers

Yes, I was very interested in that discussion & following it (terrible white middle-class feminist that I am). It was a great conversation, and far more productive than the Sparts who used to invade my (female only) Women's Lib group at university (oh the late 70s!) who would disrupt & derail our earnest conversations by telling us in no uncertain terms that we couldn't have women's liberation until we had the liberation of the proletariat.

Hmmm, all very well, and in theory - well, of course. But meanwhile? Women are still paid less, raped, abused by domestic partners, more likely to die in poverty and on and on and on and on.

I guess even my 18 year old self was politically pragmatic.

I think when you start ranting at and insulting the very people who have supported you for a long time, it's definitely time for a break.

I wince at conflict sometimes and need to woman up a bit. But she does raise an important issue re class and I'll really miss reading her on twitter.

I really like Moody. She doesn’t bitch about people behind their backs. She says it to their face, and I massively admire that.

Hi All!

Really appreciate the support and concern.

I am not personally attacking anyone. There's a very real difference between calling out issues within the GC movement and making personal attacks. There are many academics I have a great deal of time and respect for, but I cannot, in good conscience, offer unqualified support to everyone after how York treated me. That was very much a case of: speak out unless it's the wrong kind of speaking out in which case we'll cut you off from philosophy.

Mostly, I've had good feedback from the Twitter discussion. Unfortunately, nuance often goes missing in 240 characters and I can understand why some may feel defensive - absolutely not my intention to upset anyone.

I did not rant or single out anyone. We must be able to discuss these issues - if many women report experiencing it then we should try and listen rather than go: NOT ME. That right there exemplifies the very attitude I'm talking about. People recognizing their relative privilege would go a long way.

Fair enough, Louise - I'm the last to judge anyone's behaviour in this long slog to keep fighting for women's rights. I know from my own experience of being doxxed & TRAs trying to get me sacked, that I'm a bit of a coward. I have spoken out about that experience in my own name, but I've yet to take the bigger steps that you and others are taking.

So strength to you!

Also: Hayden insanity; having had to report someone on Twitter to the police after they posted over 100 times about me in five days (the police quantified her as a medium risk); the ongoing York stuff; and personal stuff has led to something of a meltdown. I'm usually (!) reasonable, and don't want to be that person who lashes out in anger. I can only apologize to anyone I've offended - I really was only intending to highlight a general issue (and when you're both PhD and working class like me you can find yourself seemingly straddling two worlds - the relatively comfortable academic one and the one where you have to fight for everything because no-one else is going to help you - with the result that you end up feeling like you belong nowhere).

flowers Wishing you strength Doc L xx

PerrysWinkle Mon 02-Dec-19 14:53:26

Hi Louise, just wanted to send you some solidarity and thanks for publically speaking out. I was in Leeds last week to hear you speak at WPUK event. I echo what was said there - we need to be brave and speak about these issues because if we don’t, what happens next. Thank you for being one of the brave.

P.s I can’t decide what was more epic in Leeds, the meeting in general or your smashing blouse. grin

I'd hate to be in any way involved in the insanity that seems to swirl around SH and cronies.
