There really is no hope. The zoo is determined to kill off its penguin population now, by failing to understand nature and science.

If they do decide to make this poor creature procreate, they’ll be able to “assign a gender” (sex it), no problem.

Keeper ‘you’re a nice little one now aren’t you? Little gender neutral pingu? Or rather species neutral bird... oh hand on - Bill, Bill can we say ‘bird’ now?’
Penguin ‘just gimme a fish and fuck off you weirdo...’

Let's hope the soon to be out of work zoo keeper doesn't decide to take up farming animals.

Good luck with them chickens.

It's a good news story to highlight the madness. A penguin's sex and instincts based on it are real and based in biology. Penguin gender is not real and nothing to do with biology. Could that be applied to any other species I wonder?

the world’s first penguin to not have its gender assigned.

Oh wow. I had no idea there were teams of people assigning gender to all the penguins of the world!Shock

Penguins don't wear clothes and I'm pretty sure don't give a fishy shit about pronouns. When it gets to breeding age, I'm pretty sure the keepers will take note of its sex - it might be of some interest if it turned out to be another 'gay' penguin.

When it starts wanting to wear heels and lipstick they will know for sure it's a girl penguin

Sarah you've got it back to front. You place it equidistant between two bowls of fish, one pink, one blue. If it waddles to the pink one it has a feminine gender identity. If it waddles to the blue one it feels like a boy inside. If it stays still and starves to death, it is non binary (or the theologian and philosopher Burridan was right).

Well, at least we all now know what the Antarctic Survey has been doing all these years.

Incidentally, I've just found that they have a Penguin of the Day.

"Emperor penguin use the vocal calls in identifying their partners. The complex sets of vocal calls helps in identifying a parent, offspring or a mate especially in a colony"

Quote from Animals adda website.

The penguins know.
