Oh go on then, one comment. Gentoo penguins are endangered. Now we know why grin

There really is no hope. The zoo is determined to kill off its penguin population now, by failing to understand nature and science.

If they do decide to make this poor creature procreate, they’ll be able to “assign a gender” (sex it), no problem.

There are some witty twitter replies.

I assumed it was a baby name thread.

OldCrone Tue 10-Sep-19 09:04:01

People who follow sky news on twitter are not woke.

Keeper ‘you’re a nice little one now aren’t you? Little gender neutral pingu? Or rather species neutral bird... oh hand on - Bill, Bill can we say ‘bird’ now?’
Penguin ‘just gimme a fish and fuck off you weirdo...’

WrathoSWhlttIeKIop Tue 10-Sep-19 09:19:20

The penguins went in two by two.
Hurrah.
Hurrah.
The penguins went in two by two.
Hurrah.
Hurrah.
The penguins went in two by two.
A male penguin and a 'you know who' .
And the zoo closed cos we
we never saw penquins again.

The sooner the human race is obliterated, the better.

WrathoSWhlttIeKIop Tue 10-Sep-19 09:31:29

Let's hope the soon to be out of work zoo keeper doesn't decide to take up farming animals.

Good luck with them chickens.

Doyoumind Tue 10-Sep-19 09:43:55

It's a good news story to highlight the madness. A penguin's sex and instincts based on it are real and based in biology. Penguin gender is not real and nothing to do with biology. Could that be applied to any other species I wonder?

ErrolTheDragon Tue 10-Sep-19 10:06:37

* the world’s first penguin to not have its gender assigned.*

Oh wow. I had no idea there were teams of people assigning gender to all the penguins of the world!shock

Penguins don't wear clothes and I'm pretty sure don't give a fishy shit about pronouns. When it gets to breeding age, I'm pretty sure the keepers will take note of its sex - it might be of some interest if it turned out to be another 'gay' penguin.

SarahTancredi Tue 10-Sep-19 10:40:25

How will.it know whether to eat pink or blue fish ?

littlbrowndog Tue 10-Sep-19 10:43:06

There are assignment bots

They are on every maternity ward doing thie4 assigning of babies

Now they are in zoos

Awesome bots

AryaStarkWolf Tue 10-Sep-19 10:46:13

When it starts wanting to wear heels and lipstick they will know for sure it's a girl penguin

BarbaraStrozzi Tue 10-Sep-19 10:47:23

Sarah you've got it back to front. You place it equidistant between two bowls of fish, one pink, one blue. If it waddles to the pink one it has a feminine gender identity. If it waddles to the blue one it feels like a boy inside. If it stays still and starves to death, it is non binary (or the theologian and philosopher Burridan was right).

SarahTancredi Tue 10-Sep-19 10:53:32

If it stays still and starves to death, it is non binary
😂😂😂

SquishySquirmy Tue 10-Sep-19 10:54:11

All penguins identify as male don't they?
Hence the tuxedos.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers Tue 10-Sep-19 10:59:43

WrathoSWhittleKlop

Bravo!

Though my coffee spluttered keyboard does not thank you.

WrathoSWhlttIeKIop Tue 10-Sep-19 10:59:51

Aha Squishy, I think you meant to say non binary.
The tuxedo is the penguin feather style whatever the weather.

littlbrowndog Tue 10-Sep-19 11:00:41

That is literally penguin death 🐦

WrathoSWhlttIeKIop Tue 10-Sep-19 11:45:33

Here is a female Macaroni penguin.
You can tell its a female cos he is wearing fancy feathers.

ErrolTheDragon Tue 10-Sep-19 12:47:29

Well, at least we all now know what the Antarctic Survey has been doing all these years.

Incidentally, I've just found that they have a Penguin of the Day.

"Emperor penguin use the vocal calls in identifying their partners. The complex sets of vocal calls helps in identifying a parent, offspring or a mate especially in a colony"

Quote from Animals adda website.

The penguins know.
