While watching clips of his recent stand-up show, I came across an excellent quote by him.

"I support anyone's right to be who they want to be. My question is: to what extent do I have to participate in your self-image?"

Says it all, and said by someone who's successful and rich enough not to be beholden to any channel etc trying to filter his material. (If you haven't seen it, his take on the whole Jussie Smollett thing is excellent).

Rotten tomatoes initially gave him literally 0%, such is the power of intersectionality and fear of stepping outside the tent. The it has hold over supposedly independant professional critics is amazing.

I don't know.

I put it on on the strength of Glinner's recommendation, and tried to stick it out to the end, but couldn't. At one point Chappelle said something along the lines of, "If you're offended by that, let me remind you that you clicked on this, BITCH." There were lots of "bitch" type remarks and no acknowledgment that "punching down" is not the same as "punching up."

I got bored and couldn't find much to make me laugh, so I turned it off. YMMV.

And that is how it’s supposed to work. Get bored, switch if off. Not get professionally offended and stop anyone else from seeing it. I watched it and thought some bits were funny, some boring and some made me cringe.

Not watched the full thing yet but 'Juicee Smoullee' was hilarious.

I think to an extent comedy is culturally specific. I don't mind Dave Chappelle but find there are aspects of his routines I don't really 'get' be that because he is American, black, or male.

The Young Turks (US progressive YouTube channel) had Contrapoints on to complain about Chapelle.

The like/dislike ratio is illuminating:

A couple of weeks back The Young Turks posted some critical commentary on the gendered language police at the recent DSA convention. I almost posted it here, giddy at the signs of a cultural shift from woke to actually awake.

They must’ve had a negative response though, because when I went back to look for it again, it was gone.

Here’s the clip they were commenting on, posted elsewhere:

I also got a bit bored about a third of the way through, some jokes were quite funny and to the point but overall I found it a bit meandering. I might go back and finish it eventually. I enjoyed the last Ricky Gervais stand up more but that might be cultural thing, I tend to relate less to American humour generally.

I am American but preferred the Gervais special, too. OMG! I am actually a British woman who was coercively assigned American at birth! Wink
