Disappointed that Butlins is sexualising school girls

Hi all so I'm at Butlins this week which is always a good holiday with kids as so much to keep them busy.

They have a little mix tribute band that has a song where the dancers and singers dress up in school uniform the male dancers are not sexualised but the female ones definitely are the skirts were extremely short. The singer's then carry on wearing the school girl outfits for a few songs.

I shouldn't be surprised but surely someone within their events team should have put two and two together and thought a family show with lots of little girls and teenage girls watching it do we really want our singers and dancers wearing sexy schoolgirl outfits.

What made it ten times worse for me was the Dad in his forties near me commenting "oh hello" when they came on in their outfits (they had previously had as equally tight and short outfits on).

I really would have loved to have said to him oh so you find someone dresses as an underage school girl attractive?

& Don't even get me started on the mixed sex toilets in the new pool that have massive gaps top and bottom 🤦‍♀️

Which Butlins? I'm going soon and was meant to be swimming.

Bognor Regis the renovated pool is good but except once when the oldest insisted on changing by herself on the toilets (Why I didn't think of going with her then and changing next to her but will when we go again).

I haven't let my DD go to the toilets by themselves as it's so noisy and busy it's the perfect place to hurt someone unheard Angry

Think this thread posted earlier will be right up your street. The poem is spot on. Enjoy.

YANBU grim. Did you complain? Would you feel confident to when you leave? It could just be something very short on trip advisor or similar saying ‘lovely stay but the adults dressed up as school children in ‘sexy’ outfits for a kids performance felt very inappropriate and ill judged in a post ‘me too’ world.’

I’ve put me too in ‘ ‘ to denote it being a name! Hope it doesn’t look like I’m casting shade on it! I’m not!

Yes I will complain.
Thanks burneremail I'll probably use that wording or similar.
I can't believe I'm the only person who has sat there going what the hell are you thinking.

The poem sort of makes up in a way for the fury Dr Ems essay provokes. The sadness that generations of young women have had to put up with this objectifying shit (Footbinding,
corsets, Page 3 and Benny Hill) but in our technologically advanced, highly media saturated societies it's only got more prevalent and perverse. (Thinking the spycam epidemic in Korea and upskirting)

Trouble is men will have told be forced to behave, they aren't going to stop their selfish/abusive pleasure without lots of pressure/consequenses. Epstein being most recent example.

I agree that you aren't going to want to change as a male when you have it great. Although I still have probably naive faith in humankind that we are generally good and kind, I believe lots of people use cognitive dissonance otherwise they would be overwhelmed.

Let us know Butlins response. Sounded really inappropriate.

I would be tempted to tweet Butlins to say how ‘disappointed you were that they thought in this day and age (#metoo #saville #epstein etc) that ‘sexualised teenage girls’ were appropriate family entertainment but that you assume that it comes from the same people responsible for the loos with large gaps around - perfect for pedophiles and peeping toms but horrendous for normal decent people. What are you thinking? Please think of your family visitors!’

I’m pretty sure that a tweet along those lines would be noticed by - and elicit a reaction from - Butlins as they’re not going to want those keywords being associated with them.

Thanks for raising this Sickof I too am interested in Butlin's response. Did you manage to get any photographs? As you raise about the man sitting next you, he now thinks or really has had it re-confirmed that your daughters are fair game.

Socrates thank you for reposting my essay. It's good to raid it for facts for complaining or even send it to them.

I'm up for complaining on Twitter alongside you Wibbletooth. As my account is locked I don't know if they will be able to see my tweets but we can ask feminist Twitter to complain too.

I imagine you'll get as much feedback as I did when I emailed my complaint (none). They even sent an email asking me to rate my experience and didn't even follow it up after I did and complained..

I haven't been in the swimming pool at the other Butlins yet but am booked to go. I've just realised that as soon as I saw your post I thought "well, I'm not going swimming then". We'll see, might just have to make an almighty fuss.

As for the creepy man at the show, Envy (not envy) and I hate how sexualised these young women are in a way the men never are.
Great poem on that link

Wow so i've just got home and sat down picked up my phone to all these messages! I've tweeted them it is literally my 3 tweet ever, not sure if I even know how to check for a reply but I'm sure I'll figure it out or Google it

Going by @ButlinsIsShite previous non response I'm sure I'll hear nothing.

@ThatDoctorEM if I'd been sat closer to that pervert dad he'd of got an earful, I couldn't.picl out who had said it on the tables near me.
I was going to take pictures today before we left but changed our minds about swimming 🤦‍♀️

I've seen that group do that act
Have you seen the video to that song? Little mix dress in school girl style uniforms the band are emulating that they've not been told to wear that by Butlins.

Take it up with little mix or salute the name of the group if you are so offended

Sickoffamilydrama · 12/08/2019 20:59

So by that reasoning if they have a Miley Cyrus tribute act (cause she's popular with their demographic) you'd be fine with a naked singer for wreaking ball?

Of course Butlins vetos the acts they are representing and intrinsically linked with Hmm

Of course I'm offended although it's more disgust with the fetishisation of children.

Women dressed as school girls is disgusting. There shouldn't be anything sexy about a school uniform.
I know for a fact it is the hill my husband would die on, every time we see it TV/real life/wherever he will complain, officially if possible. He thinks it is based on the assumption that all men are pedophiles, he finds it offensive to men as well as obviously degrading to women.

Yes my husband is the same, although he admits he didn't notice or maybe question these things before he had daughters and then the scales have well and truly come off his eyes although I probably was the same I wouldn't have noticed it when I was younger.

He was putting the youngest to bed so missed the show.

Just tagged the event management company as well.

Figgygal I think your missing the point about the hypersexualisation of what are minors. Your attitude is terribly defeatist. So what if celebrities do something, should that then just be accepted? We can never Object? Butlins may be a lower hanging fruit than little mix and women have to start somewhere.

Definitely complain.

Worth contacting the local council about the toilets- presumably at some point there has been a refurb of sorts and they may have needed planning permission. Call it a safeguarding issue of sorts.

Should have said "That for all the paedophiles in the audience, obviously" and pointed at him!
