Ugh. How depressing for the 4th place athlete. I feel for her and the other two on the podium.

TBH, perhaps it needs a case like this on the world-wide Olympic stage to make those in charge see the lunacy of their regulations.

The cognitive capture has gone too far.
I was part of it, even while watching Hubbard win in the Commonwealth Games, and then stuff their elbow another time.
Sure, I thought "this can't be right", but I was a tad bewildered, and sympathetic, and just trusted in the collective wisdom, without really thinking about it at all.

.....And then I found Mumsnet Grin

I have to own, I used to have a knee jerk reaction to all supposed biases; I saw '...ism' and '...phobic' everywhere and tuttutted along.

Look at these women's faces. If you are on Twitter and want to tell the NZ authorities what you think about women being cheated out of their rightful places like this please feel free to do so.

Agreed but so fucked off with the women losing places in the mean time, and if we can reverse this, and this is seen as cheating, will the medals be stripped, and the records removed?

Exactly.

This, I'm sure, is how the majority see trans issues.

Why are children vulnerable,in general? Because of their innocence and naïvety. It doesn't suddenly switch off at 18. We all retain innocence and naïvety of issues outside our experience, knowledge or analytical ability.

The trans ideology is successful because of general innocence and naïvety. Laurel Hubbard is not, technically, a cheat. The rules of their sport's governing body appear to allow male-bodied athletes to compete in competitions for female-bodied athletes. The only reasons viewers accept this are either misogyny or naïvety.

GirlDownUnder That does happen, but I can't imagine a retrospective medal will ever make up for missing out on that moment of glory standing on the podium.

I am both gobsmacked and enraged at the same time to think we have got ourselves in this absurd situation.

Small mercies TimeLady but I agree that a retrospective medal will be like ashes. Who will really care at that point.
It would be poetic if only the cheaters 'achievements' were wiped from records, while their name details of their cheating remained.

The twitter ratios and comments are very heartening and supportive of the female athletes.

Flowers to the two female medallists who seemed to me to protest Hubbard's win with pointed dignity. Maybe this is the way all women and girls should protest when their medal hopes are destroyed by these opportunistic 'transwomen'.

Joisanofthedales · 13/07/2019 10:03

In addition to all the other ways women are protesting I meant to say. Duh!

This is what needs to happen:

Male people should be banned completely from competing in women-only sports categories. By male people I mean anyone born physically male, regardless of their current identity.

Male people should not be allowed to compete as women in any sport. If necessary there can be a trans category.

Any records broken by male people in female sports should be nullified.

In the interests of clarity, people should be free to use pronouns reflecting an athlete's sex, not gender.

But, I don't necessarily believe in rolling back male people's medals and victories in female sports. Morally they should never have got them in the first place, but it seems a bit mean to individuals to revoke them now. Records that have been set need to be erased because there's a chance actual women will never be able to break them. But victories just have to be chalked up to experience, like the races won by East German athletes in the eighties.

This really moving short piece by Dr Jen Assali, US masters cyclist and surgeon, where she talks about THAT race against McKinnon explains why some women athletes feel they can't protest on the podium.

I was (foolishly) discussing women's athletics with a "woke" colleague. I was saying that it's not about the top places, it's about the women who get knocked off a qualifying place . I gave the example of US college scholarships. "They could just apply to another college" was the answer.
