Hurrah!
Thank you for sharing and thanks to Andrew again. And thanks to the Scouts.

Wonder if Girl Guides will also review their policy?

Girl guides is likely too deep down the rabbit hole. Though one can always hope.

Hooray for a positive change. If scouts can do it maybe some schools can too. And then more.

Great to hear what sounds like sensible, moderate change.

Anyone know the details of the changes?

Someone in the scouts has actually listened then. And not only that, but thought it through.
Bout time.

Amazing news!

Adding sex to the list of protected characteristics, removing most references to Mermaids and most importantly, dropping confidential disclosures and reverting back to information sharing, is just fantastic news to wake up to!

That’s amazing news.

Let’s hope other organisations follow suit.

Girl guides is likely too deep down the rabbit hole.

Guiding was always going to be under more political pressure, very much like any other organisation or service that’s for females only.

But I love the way that article is written. The Overton window is moving back, and the paper is reporting this as if the original changes were some aberration, which anyone can see, with hindsight, were deeply flawed.

Report
Gingernaut · 26/05/2019 08:13

Guiding is mainly women and girls.

Coincidence?

HermioneWeasley · 26/05/2019 08:16

Good news, but I don’t think they should be mocked for seeing sense - don’t want any other organisations to be put off by having it described as “earning a U turn badge”

It's something, but male spaces have never really been the issue.

Report
WeWantJustice · 26/05/2019 08:24

It's excellent news.

Although of course men and boys are going to have more power to defend their own spaces than are women and girls, this is still a massive signal to other organisations that maybe they might need to look again at what they're doing.

What and where have they actually changed?

members.scouts.org.uk/supportresources/4228/supporting-trans-young-people?cat=377,378&moduleID=10

Links to Mermaids, says that trans children must be allowed to use the toilets and facilities of the gender they identify with...

Good point ItsAllGoingToBeFine

The message doesn't seem to have been passed on to the web team. We should keep an eye on that.

Anyoldprion yes good points, what a depressing pattern.

Well done Scouts though and thanks to Andrew Gilligan for reporting.

That's good news, sadly I don't think girl guides will change their policy until there's a scandal but now they won't be able to say everyone had the same policy as an excuse

Great point, Prion - the 'backing away from batshittery' tone is most useful.

Girl guides is likely too deep down the rabbit hole.

Girl Guides were always going to be a priority for TRAs because they have Girl in the title.

Anything with Girl, Women, Female or Ladies in the title is a TRA magnet.
