Fin Taylor’s non comedic comedy routine Live At The Apollo just now?

Not sure if this is a repeat or not but basically the whole of his ‘comedy’ routine was about how some nasty transphobic trans exclusionary feminists are being mean and moaning about trans women using female toilets?
Also couldn’t understand why lesbians were protesting at Pride
He did touch on the cotton ceiling issue slightly later
He’s a straight man by the way, so eminently qualified to pontificate...
It wasn’t even remotely funny no matter what side of the debate you are on.
Grrrr.

I saw it and I didn't think it was funny either. Particularly when he wondered why men want to become women when women get paid so much less.

Not remotely funny.

Not sure what your point is. I'm a white , middle- class solicitor with a touch of Hyacinth Bucket /Marie Antoinette about me , living in a posh part of Edinburgh Plenty of people have made fun of me and I've usually laughed because usually it's funny.

Fin Taylor simply isn't funny.

On the other hand Lee Mack did a whole episode of Not Going Out tonight mocking male insecurities about sex education - and repeatedly hate-crimed trans people by referring to vaginas and penises as female and male organs respectively.

Mocking yourself is so old fashioned when you have women to punch up at.

What got my goat was him using a National TV platform to perpetuate the idea that TW have been through a ton of admin, HRT and surgery. A bit longer on Twitter and he might have twigged that it is the self-id GRC proposals that are bothering us. And he might even have uncovered a few of those 'that's never going to happen' happenings.

Taking the mickey out of your own private education male privilege doesn't excuse lazy dismissal of a more vulnerable group's genuine concerns. Look forward to him revisiting this subject when he has a teenage DD getting a UTI from avoiding school toilets, or becoming a school refuser when she has her period.

And that was such an old hat routine too.

Are you for real? I've got a lifetime's experience of this shit - school, workplace, TV, comedy clubs (I remember going to one comedy club with a group of lesbian friends where 3 out of the 4 acts were straight men mocking lesbians as part of their routine). That's before you get into all the general misogynist shit of rape jokes etc.

There was finally a bit of pushback against all that but now straight, white, ultra-privileged males can mock lesbians protesting against rape culture and be praised for being woke and ultra-progressive. No wonder these guys love and embrace this new movement.

Comedians have been making fun of women since forever - wife jokes, mother jokes, MIL jokes, all those oh-those-funny jokes based on the premise that all women are the same and can be mocked for this shared predilection or trait.

The only difference this time is just as it looked as though it might be recognised as unfunny for privileged middle class white men to do this, they went and found a whole new angle from which to mock women. Plus ca change ...

What does this even mean? You’re saying that feminists deserve to be mocked because people mock trans people? I find your posts incredibly hard to understand. When I make my way through the idiosyncratic SPAG to try to find the point, it’s often a wasted journey, because there isn’t one.

Just come out and say what you think rather than these snide asides, for goodness sake!

He’s fond of rape gags too, eg. responding to one heckler that she was too ugly to rape.

Frankie Boyle is the worst. He’s gone from ‘I like to help abused young girls... escape from my cellar’ to defending censorship and attacking Ricky Gervaise for his Jenner routine.

I think Brexit is part of this. I voted Remain but I am concerned that almost 100% of comedians think Brexit voters are Nazis and we need a harsh winter to kill them all off. It has opened the floodgates for hatred.

I was thinking WTF at the start but he did actually support lesbians and scoffed at the idea of the female penis and lesbians being expected to embrace it.

AssangesCat · 30/04/2019 09:10

I noticed some misgendering going on in his routine, e.g. he wouldn't mind a woman going into the men's toilets if they were trans - women are welcome into the men's!

He was a bit inconsistent - he could understand lesbians not wanting to be intimate with a transwoman with male genitalia. So he gets that.

I only caught the end of it, he didn't come across as a very highly evolved young man to me.

I'd love to see him say that to the average TRA.
