Political parties who support women's rights

Are there any??
I am politically homeless with local elections coming up. I previously voted labour until brexit and wokeness but don't know who to vote for now. I live in a Tory Seat that was previously long term Lib Dem. Many people vote strategically to try and oust the tories but I'm not sure I could vote for any of them and feel comfortable.

There are literally none. Are there any independents sitting in your constituency who you could chat to about this?

RepealTheGRA · 23/04/2019 08:14

There are none, unless the communists happen to be standing in your area?

It’s a case of voting for individual candidates or spoiling your vote.

Tories are marginally less batshit on the self ID issue than the Lib Dem’s.

I think UKIP might be the only one and obviously that’s not really an option Shock

I’ll be spoiling my ballot.

They'd need to be non-woke and remainers to get my vote.
My local labour candidate is passionate about women's rights and remaining but her party isn't so I don't feel I can give her my vote.

However I know her personally and she'd do a good job if elected. Our current Tory mp is a waste of space with an appalling voting record. Principles over practicality is a tough one.

But it's the local elections. You should be voting for the candidate who does the most for your community and can best represent you on the Council.

Unless your Council is going to start debating feminist issues it really isn't the thing to be looking for here. Think pot holes and wate collections. I wish they would take political parties out of locals!!

I believe local councillors should be aware of potential safeguarding issues in schools and sports centres. I'll certainly mention it to any canvassers, whatever their party.

What about in Leeds where there is a disgusting policy on prostitution( managed area) where WPUKmeeting was banned, where you can apparently have your self ID with a phone call? They are clearly not talking about pot holes or street cleaning or rubbish collection...

angry that is shocking, and I hope local councillors are challenged at every opportunity. Politicians need grassroots support so the local parties need to feed back on the concerns of the community.

It's not just about dustbins and potholes!

I agree; councils are responsible for a lot of things where the rights of women and girls are important. It is certainly going to be an issue for me, and I have asked my prospective councillors a number of questions, for the most part with absolutely no response.
If they can't be bothered to respond to me, as a voter and a council tax payer, it doesn't bode well for them doing a good job does it?

UKIP are not in favour of womens rights, and their manifesto states that they plan to abolish the Equality Act.
They are the only party to openly admit it, imo the others will do it by stealth.

Local councils are at the forefront of extinguishing women's rights to single sex spaces and removing safeguarding principles in schools, leisure centres and facilities.

I do not subscribe to the view that they are merely concerned with bus, houses and bins.

My council is a top Stonewall Champion. It promotes Mermaids on its 'useful links'. It worked with Gendered Intelligence on school policies. It commissions buildings with mixed sex toilets and changing facilities. It reduces or stops funding to services that aren't "inclusive" of men. It embodies everything that I am fighting against.

Every single political party standing for election to my local council believes that I am transphobic to resist the onward march of 'gender'.

I will protest at the ballot box by drawing a single line through the lot of them and writing 'none' - and so will my family and friends.

UKIP I think are anti trans as opposed to pro women. If the EA is repealed do all the previous laws that were repealed when the EA came into force come back into play? Or would they remain repealed and we have no rights whatsoever?

repeal yes, I totally agree. Every extra councillor defending women and girls, whatever her/his party, is well worth having.

SDP if they have a candidate in your area are against identity politics. I emailed and asked about the changes to GRA and got an email back saying they were not in favour of it or Self-ID.

I wonder if you’re in the same constituency as me OP? I recognise a Tory waste of space MP in a previous Lib Dem seat.

Anyway, I have no idea what I’ll do - the Lib Dems are a disaster for women, but are at least anti-Brexit, Labour (my natural home) don’t tick either the women or the anti-Brexit box!

We sometimes have a local independent candidate but he’s a little unique to say the least.

Report
Motheroffeminists · 23/04/2019 18:43

We do sometime have an independent candidate. A Green one too. There were incidents last year between the Lib Dems and the Green with the vile LD candidate being abusive towards the female Green candidate. He's an odious toad. I had to block him on Facebook.

The Communist Party of Great Britain (Marxist-Leninist) is against identity politics (which includes trans ideology).

We just have the main parties - have been a Labour council for years - one of the most corrupt, money grubbing scum I can think of. I've got a postal vote, and sadly, have voted conservative -

I’ll be spoiling my ballot paper with #womendon’thavepenises and #womanisnotafeeling

Fuck the lot of them. They don’t get to call me a bigot and then demand my vote.
