Feminism: Sex & gender discussions

Unlikely allies? Hammond, May and Clarkson!

Really never thought I could envisage talking positively about The Grand Tour in FWR....... but episode 4 of the current series seems to suggest that James May and Richard Hammond may have been peak transed!!

Discussion started with May talking about self ID saving money on car insurance by IDing as a lady with no need to "exchange the beef torpedo for the silken purse" and moved on to Hammond talking about self ID at the local swimming pool.

I guess they are no strangers to controversy so probably won't be too concerned about being called transphobes.

Off to watch it now, they may just have redeemed themselves.

They talked about it 2 weeks ago too. I think I started a thread somewhere...

Might be the same one, episode 4, sorry if this is a duplicate

Keep watching. There's a conversation street that talks about women in racing.
Starts off a bit odd and then they end up talking about the grass roots level of racing and that's where the inequality starts.
Then Hammond has a melt down about a horse which is very funny.

Have seen the meltdown about the horse on social media but haven't watched that episode yet. Will look out for it, thanks!

Yes I was pleasantly surprised the discussion on women in racing wasn't sexist and stupid. It was pretty sensible.

I've been very impressed with them this season!

Lexilooo I'm pretty sure its not a duplicate. I think the one I saw was near the beginning of conversation street and it was (I think) either Ep 2 or Ep 3.

Ah yes... they were discussing the utter stupidity of putting men into women's prisons just because they said they were women.

They are wealthy white middle aged men.
They can say what they like about who they like and no one really cares, and even when people do care they don't give a fuck.

There have been a few little references to the gender madness. I think I've counted 3 in all.

I'm not a fan of that trio, but they reach a different demographic, and it might just make some of their audience think twice if they read/watch something related in the news.

There are some seriously WEIRD feminist allies in this fight Grin Nick Ferrari, Piers Morgan, now the Top Gear lot!

@SpartacusAutisticusAHF yes it did feel genuine, I guess because we know they'd only say what they want to say!

Then why is Graham Linehan targeted?

He seems to tick all of the above boxes.

Lexilooo · 19/02/2019 12:34

I guess in part they were genuine about women in motor sport because they have seen first hand how good they can be, and because Sabine Schmitt would kick their arses if they weren't

At the end of the day they are pretty impervious to any criticism and have survived various scandals including accusations of racism so they probably aren't too worried what people think of their gender comments. Plus woke types and trans-women aren't exactly their target demographic........

They are fairly untouchable, give good screen face and have safety in numbers.

Linehan was targeted by across the pond TRAs primarily, I am guessing they were never huge Father Ted fans to begin with.

BlahXXBlah · 19/02/2019 12:43

Also I suspect glinner came to TRA attention via twitter and other already under the microscope feminists.

Linehan maybe already was in the sights of anti-women's rights activists because of his and his wife's involvement in the Irish repeal the 8th campaign.

DoctoressPlague · 19/02/2019 12:59

Blokey blokes who mostly talk about cars get a free pass because TRAs worship gender stereotypes. Glinner is too caring and women-centric for their liking.
Plus Hammond, May and Clarkson aren't tweeting about Mermaids etc.

RockyFlintstone · 19/02/2019 13:00

TRAs know that if they tried to target those three they would get absolutely roasted alive. I mean can you imagine if they published say Richard Hammonds wifes details in the way they did Linehan's, there would be outrage!

These three have much wider audience and reach, especially amongst Joe Public, and the TRAs just wouldn't go there.

Plus, Glinners association with MN makes him a much easier target, whereas I'm sure that the other 3 would still largely dismiss MN as

Hmmm.

My suspicion is that they are actually anti anyone being trans - which isn't exactly the feminist position.

As in they are pretty anti anything 'politically correct', which would include people being Trans.

But haven't seen it, so can't judge.

(Clarkson anyway. May and Hammond always seem like more reasonable human beings)

To me it makes perfect sense and refects the views of most Conservative, Times reading men ( Cameron & Clerkson were friends).
They enjoy controversy and may have be enjoying new freedoms speech now they are not at the BBC
