I'm so pleased to see this. I've been a big fan of Martina since I was a kid and this just makes her go up even higher in my estimation:

'Ever the peacemaker, I promised to keep quiet on the subject until I had properly researched it.
Well, I’ve now done that and, if anything, my views have strengthened.'

McKinnon is a champion at peak transing people, at least.

I hope governing bodies actually listen to her.

Male bodies have no place in female sport. Bigger, stronger, different shape. Dress any way they want, call themselves what they want but don't think it's an achievement to win a medal with a male body in a dress completing against natural females.

Create a 3rd category transfemale if they want. Because if they don't womens sport will end up all trans and hardly a natural born female in sight.

Good for her! I've always admired Martina for her sporting achievements and also for her confidence in herself as a person.

On this particular subject, hers is the voice of reason and common sense. She is saying what the majority of people are thinking and feeling on the matter.

Sporting competition should be fair. You wouldn't enter a one-armed swimmer into a race with other swimmers who had two arms because, clearly, the latter would have an unfair advantage. The same has always applied to men and women. If you put a man against a woman in a contest that requires muscular strength, the man will usually win, by virtue of his biological make up.

Hoping for a share token! So glad she hasn't been cowed into silence and is taking a stand.

Fantastic from Martina!

I always knew McKinnon would be the source of their own downfall.

"Ever the peacemaker, I promised to keep quiet on the subject until I had properly researched it.

Well, I’ve now done that and, if anything, my views have strengthened. To put the argument at its most basic: a man can decide to be female, take hormones if required by whatever sporting organisation is concerned, win everything in sight and perhaps earn a small fortune, and then reverse his decision and go back to making babies if he so desires. It’s insane and it’s cheating. I am happy to address a transgender woman in whatever form she prefers, but I would not be happy to compete against her. It would not be fair."

Good article Martina! But agree with one of the comments on the article that if Semenya does have external testes then that is XY and needs to compete as.

Report
NotBadConsidering · 17/02/2019 03:59

Yes I also disagree with her about Semenya as I’ve said on the other thread. Otherwise very bold statement.

"Hundreds of athletes who have changed gender by declaration and limited hormone treatment have already achieved honours as women that were beyond their capabilities as men, especially in sports in which power rather than skill is paramount. McKinnon is just one example. " (my bolding)

I love that she not only gets to say this again but ends the article with it

Here’s how I concluded my Twitter spat: “Rachel, you may be an expert on all things trans, but you are one nasty human being. Attack, attack, attack. I will not take it from you. You did not engage; you bullied. Not blocking you [though I later did, because who wants all that negativity], but enough already. All I want is fairness.”

I know it might seem petty but McKinnon really needed to reap the sad fruit of their incessant needling.
