Apparently this is a thing.

There is no scientifcally backed evidence that says parsley can induce menstruation

Sorry, JY.

I think anything concerning health ought to be peer reviewed. It’s not like fashion or film reviews where if someone gets it wrong it doesn’t matter.

Well people put garlic up there to fight infections. And parsley stops garlic breath. So presumably it stops garlic foof...

Logic?

Parsley in your vagina was used for the same reasons as rue tea, or brewers yeast tea. Are you saying it doesn't work? I'm shocked, straight up.

I hope this is not a reference to the very frendly lion in "The Herbs."

Maybe there ought to be a safety warning on it.

Partner and I have just had a little duet of it together after I laughed out loud.

'induce menstruation' is a modern version of the code for ending a pregnancy
there are many herbs which are not to be taken in pregnancy, for this reason
but I never heard that parsley is one of them

I assumed this was another Paltrow-ism.

There are dozens. I did an aromatherapy course a few years ago that included a really interesting module on the history of plant-based medicine. A huge proportion of the plants and herbs that used to be kept in medieval physick gardens were there because they acted to induce periods, and therefore abortions. That’s why the Church and state punished women who practised medicine and “witchcraft” so harshly- because they were basically women helping other women to control their own fertility, which is of course anathema to misogynists.

What about parsley sauce? Would the cream fight thrush for a double fanny whammy?

The lis5 of essential oils (and therefore plants) that can definitely be said to have absolutely no abortifacient effect is very short. From memory, sweet orange/mandarin is about the only one definitely safe in the first trimester of pregnancy. Lavender and rosemary aren’t, although you’d probably have to use them in huge quantities for them to actually have an effect. But some of the ones like wintergreen, which features in Olbas Oil, have a much stronger link.

I think the parsley she UID be mixed with natural yoghurt for the full thrush effect iklboo, and any left overs should make quite a nice dip for your crisps.

Seriously though, has no one heard of toxic shock syndrome these days?

Doobigetta when I was a child there used to be something called "green oils " which I think may have had winter green in it which was used to reduce swelling on swollen joints of horses. I'm pretty sure it would be contraindicated in pregnancy.

I’ve just looked it up. Parsley seed essential oil is reputed to be a uterine tonic, as in stimulates the uterine muscles, which means it can be helpful during labour and to relieve period pain, but it has been implicated in miscarriages.

Sounds like yet another one of those not-researched-at-all articles. There was a spate a while back where researchers were proving they could get anything published.
Its just such a shame that they did such a harmful one. Why on earth would anyone would want to bring on a period?
