This popped up on my face book.

It is not going to solve all our problems but encouraging men to challenge other men’s behaviour is a good start.

Namechangedforthis79 Tue 15-Jan-19 08:11:39

This made me ugly cry. I've been sexually harassed at work and it's destroyed my mental health. When I tried to report it the first 2 times I was met with the attitude of "Boys will be boys" and "it's just banter." Men need to do better.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer Tue 15-Jan-19 08:13:51

Its quite often asked 'i am just one person...what can i do about toxic masculinity'

(Actually its not asked...its used as a gotcha but still)

So this video will be something to direct them to smile

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer Tue 15-Jan-19 08:14:51

Oh my god

It took me so long to type i missed names comment

So sorry that is happening to you name flowers

Lottapianos Tue 15-Jan-19 08:16:00

'Men need to do better.'

Couldn't agree more. There has been a predictable backlash from muppets like Piers Morgan, who said we should 'let boys be boys and let men be men'. hmm yeah great, thanks

'When I tried to report it the first 2 times I was met with the attitude of "Boys will be boys" and "it's just banter." '

Disgusting attitude

Ah look, another surge of young male suicides that will be blamed on toxic masculinity.

Seriously, anyone who promotes the concept has no interest in the wellbeing of men and boys.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer Tue 15-Jan-19 08:28:04

I havent watched the advert on the link above

But i have just watched it through another source

Where does it say about suicide? Is there a longer one?

Actually the only thing i winced at was the dad taking his little one over to a big group of bullies, I understand the idea behind it but gangs have been know to turn on the rescuer

In fact the exact same thing happened to an acquaintance of mine

Namechangedforthis79 Tue 15-Jan-19 08:57:06

Thank you. My therapist has said when I'm strong enough maybe I could use my experience to help change the environment in my workplace but to be honest I just want to get out of there. My experience was 2 years ago, the guy still works there and incidents involving other men are still happening. When reported, people are still met with the attitude of boys will be boys. Makes me wonder why I bothered to try and fight against in the first place. I think one of the worst things that could have happened to me was having my eyes opened to toxic masculinity because I was a lot happier when I was oblivious.

Namechangedforthis79 Tue 15-Jan-19 08:57:54

But i like the video, very much.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer Tue 15-Jan-19 09:03:10

I think its good as well

But im still confused about mephs comment

I cant see how gillette are promoting the concept that male suicides are down to toxic masculinity

jay55 Tue 15-Jan-19 09:04:21

MRAs have lost their shit over it.

Namechangedforthis79 Tue 15-Jan-19 09:28:55

I like the fact that the advert starts with them tearing down their own previous adverts. Saying that the advert emasculates men is neatly making the point the advert is trying to make.

GoulashSoup Tue 15-Jan-19 09:40:44

Name I’m sorry for what you have been through. It is as if the response or lack of from your employer is a secondary sexual harassment, essentially condoning the first. I hope you can find somewhere happy to work where you feel supported and that your career doesn’t suffer as a consequence.

Anyway let’s hope to see more things like this advert and that the tide is turning.

picklemepopcorn Tue 15-Jan-19 09:42:17

I was really impressed by the comments. I expected the usual backlash, but actually they are overwhelmingly supportive.

hypnotizzz Tue 15-Jan-19 09:55:33

That's really powerful. And it's praising the good men, not saying all men are bad.

WTFIsAGleepglorp Tue 15-Jan-19 10:02:43

MRAs have lost their shit over it.

Anything that pisses them off can't be bad.

I've seen it and although I agree with Rufusthebewilderedreindeer about tackling the bullies, I agree, it's a powerful step in the right direction.

Wow! I know they only want to sell more razors but that’s quite a shift. I was waiting for a sting in the tail like the man shields a woman from harassment and then moves in on her himself but no, they did it well. And the fact that Piers hates it is even better!

userschmoozer Tue 15-Jan-19 10:17:31

Look at the upvotes and downvotes. This has really angered a group of men who have a vested interest in keeping things the way they are.
MRA's will claim they disapprove of the advert because it criticizes men's behaviour.
If they really gave so much as a shiny shit about the well being of other men or the suicide rate, they'd be doing something about it instead of just complaining.

VickyEadie Tue 15-Jan-19 10:28:09

Made me cry.

How any man can object to it is beyond me - but says everything we need to know about those men.

peanut2017 Tue 15-Jan-19 10:28:48

Love it - of course the MRA's hate it especially as it's directed by a woman. Piers Morgan is a dick and chauvinist as well. Wonder will this effect sales of their products. Hope not

GerryblewuptheER Tue 15-Jan-19 10:42:11

The only reason mras hate it so much is because it stops the rapists and abusers and harassers from being men who hide in the shadows in dark alleyways, and this who like a but if " banter" and highlights that fact that actually an overwhelming number of men can it behave or be respectful. It shows it's any one of them. Not someone else.

Sausagefingers9 Tue 15-Jan-19 10:49:34

Love it. I think there are a lot of men who would enjoy less pressure to be a blokey bloke.

KlutzyDraconequus Tue 15-Jan-19 11:03:18

I love it. I hate this idea if Alpha and beta males and all the bollocks that goes with it.

Some of the comments on the YouTube video are pathetic and obviously posted by incredibly insecure and pathetic 'Alphas'

Time all men were deported to an island somewhere out the way. Then set up a tinder style app to choose the ones to have weekends of free time for breeding purposes.
