Apologies if there is already a thread about this. Channel 4, 10.00 tonight. 'Stella O'Malley considers the huge rise in numbers of young people embarking on gender transition, through the prism of the gender identity issues she experienced when she was a child.' According to The Times no TRA groups were prepared to contribute to this . Stella feels this may be because she was a tomboy as a young girl, (even insisting she was a boy until she hit puberty), and is now a confident, mature woman who believes that nowadays she would be pressured to go down the transition route. Sounds like it will be worth watching.

First parent of transboy "wasn't interested in girl toys" <sigh>

Callmejudith Wed 21-Nov-18 22:10:59

And autistic.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Wed 21-Nov-18 22:11:45

I hope this gets picked up on

Callmejudith Wed 21-Nov-18 22:11:52

Is there any evidence of consequences/side effects of puberty blockers?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Wed 21-Nov-18 22:12:40

AFAIK no, because it hasn't been happening long enough?

MrsScamander Wed 21-Nov-18 22:13:33

Is Matt actually on puberty blockers?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine Wed 21-Nov-18 22:15:15

I think so?

Callmejudith Wed 21-Nov-18 22:15:29

I thought so yes

She has been all over Irish radio stations talking about this through this week. Really interesting and has made very valid and balanced points.

JillyArmeeen Wed 21-Nov-18 22:18:25

There is evidence that puberty blockers cause bone problems among other side effects.
This is mostly in people who the drugs are intended for, mostly prostate cancer patients, endometriosis sufferers. And kids with precocious peberty, only taking them for a limited time..
They are not tested on healthy kids.
Google Lupron, there are thousands of testimonies out there from women whose lives have been damaged by these drugs.
These was also a small study which showed a potential loss of up to 10 iq points in girls given blockers.
I'm sorry I don't have links.

MrsScamander Wed 21-Nov-18 22:18:26

I wasn't sure if I missed them saying he definitely was or not.
And he's only 11?!

WaveThoseHands Wed 21-Nov-18 22:19:09

Wow what a time for a break "I am ok with being a guinea pig". sad

This is a very good programme so far. I think Cole was shocked to see how pretty and feminine he had been. Probably never felt that way at the time. It's shocking what 2 years on T has done.

Bittermints Wed 21-Nov-18 22:20:41

13 now, I think.

WaveThoseHands Wed 21-Nov-18 22:20:46

I took a different drug for endometriosis, no way would I agree to giving it to any child in my care.

WaveThoseHands Wed 21-Nov-18 22:21:42

I saw sadness in Cole looking at the old video, maybe regret?

BouncingOn Wed 21-Nov-18 22:22:54

Well it's all ok because they're happy to be a guinea pig...

My DD was nearly put on blockers for something else. Fortunately she didn't need to. I find it very difficult to understand why someone would go on them without due cause. I can't remember all the possible side effects but I'm sure bone density was mentioned. Sorry for the lack of detail, I blocked most of that consultation out of my memory, it was traumatic.

Very interesting to see Debbie Hayton’s wife
