Keeping it classy, M&S.

Anyone use the M&S live chat successfully? I've waited to live chat and before anyone answered they ended the chat saying it's not available.

I will be writing a very strong letter of complaint to M&S about this

What's wrong?

I don’t see the problem, cocktails have weird names and you have to be an adult to buy it.

But it's a cocktail (a rather nice one, may I add) bit like Sex on the Beach, that's just what it is called.

Sorry but I'm finding it hard to see the problem with this one.

They've even included a hint of prosecco, it's actually pretty tasty.

Have you also complained to all the pubs, bars and restaurants that sell porn star martinis?

Report
Bonions · 23/10/2018 14:11

Theyre one of my favourite cocktails

ShatnersBalloonFromPennywise · 23/10/2018 14:12

It's a recognised and popular cocktail, not something M&S has made up.

Yes, I'm in the "yeah but cocktails have funny names" group (Long slow comfortable screw against a wall, anyone?) Part of the point of cocktails is meant to be conjuring up an atmosphere of a slightly decadent nightclub.

The sad thing is the thought of trying to recreate this at home while wearing your comfy slippers, sipping an M&S pre-mixed cocktail on the draylon sofa. It does for cocktails (and the whole "Farewell mein lieber herr" vibe) what this dress did for haute couture.

It may be an actual cocktail, but I don’t madly want to explain to my small daughter what a porn star is, while shopping for cake.

Report
Eminybob · 23/10/2018 14:16

Better keep her out of the booze aisle then.

Report
bagpiss · 23/10/2018 14:17

I might have to quickly nip to M&S...

Report
QforCucumber · 23/10/2018 14:17

@charleschickens Tesco also sell a sex on the beach cocktail in a can, will you be making a complaint to them too?

Report
CharlesChickens · 23/10/2018 14:18

Well it’s hard, with her gin habit...
Actually our nearest branch is very small so the booze isn’t all by itself.

Report
StormCloudsDoClear · 23/10/2018 14:19

@Charles you don't have to, just say it's a name of drink for grown ups like "wine".

They will probably put it high mid shelf of fridges/shelf's to avoid young children's gazes anyway.

My grandma used to love a screaming orgasm, first drink she ordered on her 83rd birthday .

Can someone explain how this is a feminist issue? I'm genuinely confused.

Report
Magicstar1 · 23/10/2018 14:23

Doesn't bother me in the least...it's not like they've created the name. If they changed the name people wouldn't know what they were getting.

Because it's something to moan about.

Well, it makes a change from transgender threads.

They also sell puttanesca pasta? My kids have never shown the slightest interest in that either.

Thanks for clarifying @RudeZebra

This is making a farce of feminism - it's the name of a chuffing cocktail, a very well known one!

Report
hipsterfun · 23/10/2018 14:34

Sex and screwing are acceptable, porn not so much, so a slightly regrettable decision by M&S. I can’t get too excited about this one myself but pushback on all fronts isn’t a bad thing.

I think this kind of thing gives feminism a bad name TBH.

Am a feminist. Not offended by M&S using the very well known name of a cocktail.

Even if I was offended it would be roughly 5,789,765th on my priority list of things to be angry about.
