Plaid Cymry candidate faces disciplinary for stating "no women have penises"

And for our Welsh viewers:

penarthnews.wordpress.com/2018/08/26/penarth-plaid-candidate-who-dared-offend-trans-activists-faces-disciplinary-action/

The Welsh Nationalist Party Plaid Cymru is to call one of its Penarth council candidates Anne Greagsby before a party disciplinary panel for allegedly having “offended” transgendered people.

Ms Greagsby – who stood as a candidate for Plaid Cymru in last year’s Vale of Glamorgan Council and in the Penarth Town Council elections – is to appear before what’s being termed as a Plaid Cymru “tribunal” on September 1st.

Ms Greagsby is alleged to have committed the cardinal sin of stating on social media that people with penises are not women – a remark which has apparently outraged the ever-more-politically-correct Welsh Nationalist Party.

Ms Greagsby is claimed to have said that “No woman has a penis”, that “No female has a penis” and that “Trans women are men” – biological observations which, a few years ago, would have been regarded as stating the obvious – but which are now anathema to so-called “progressive” political parties.

Ms Greagsby has also challenged the Vale of Glamorgan Council’s so-called “Transgender Inclusion Schools Toolkit” – a left-over project inherited from the previous Labour administration which was published in April.

Is it just me or is there a distinct tone of sarcasm in there? Grin

I don't know anything about this candidate beyond the article, just thought it was pertinent to see another small party acting like the Greens...

Also I apologise for the typo in the thread title. The shame Blush

Yes, it's rather cutting in tone, isn't it. The comments are ridiculous, though.

Plaid are grasping at straws, anything for publicity. I was taught many moons ago a clitoris was a penis, so am confused by this.

I’ve voted Plaid for years, and on this issue they’ve lost three votes in this household. I’ve written to my (plaid) MP and had a response along the lines of “we support trans people”, completely ignoring all of my concerns about women’s rights.

I am a leftie liberal. I have marched for gay rights, I have fought for equality. I don’t understand why it’s so difficult to protect women and trans people. You do not endanger one group by reducing their protections, to appease another. You can make third spaces, you can find other ways.

Unless this changes I won’t be voting plaid again, and it breaks my heart a bit. But this is such an important issue, that I cannot ignore it.

I’m beginning to think that those saying trans women are women are actually trying to block out their own transphobia. They can’t cope with the idea of non-conforming men and women, and can only deal with it if they re-classify those non-conformists as the opposite sex. Easier to say trans women are women, than to say being trans is absolutely fine and acceptable.

Interesting one given the sarcastic tone of the reporting / Leanne's personal TWAW statement / the recent arrival of a GC feminist on the Plaid team (Helen Mary Jones) / Plaid's difficulty in breaking through to 'ordinary people' in Wales. Rocks and hard places if any sort of tribunal goes ahead, or even if it doesn't now that this has been made public. Leanne is honorable I believe but for some reason has not thought to look more deeply into the implications of self I-D for women's rights.

Just about all the parties have turned into thought police on this matter, haven't they? So much for free speech.

By the way, Penarth News is a blog rather than a proper newspaper, in case anyone was wondering about the sarcasm.

Note where those "leaked letters" have apparently come from, too - the youth section.

Given current national news, I'm seeing a big red flag here, and it ain't got a dragon on it.

hackmum yes, you are absolutely right - do note this is a blog rather than a newspaper, I should have made that clearer (I ran across it from a rabbit hole on Facebook). If anyone spots anything in the MSM do post it here too.

The more this sort of thing is reported the better. As the sort of old fashioned lefty voter who marched for gay rights, it took me a while to recognize the implications of transgender activism and even now everything I say is hedged about with caveats.

Joe Public takes a far more robust approach. DB1, apolitical yet conservative husband and father, describes any male who wants access to women only spaces as creeps and perverts. DB2 likewise. They would piss themselves laughing at the idea that a woman can have a penis. If this tribunal gets any publicity the reaction is likely to be WTAF. It's only inside the bubble that any of this nonsense has any traction.

A Big Thumbs Up to new heroine Anne Greagsby for giving Plaid a biology lesson

Anne now faces a tribunal led by a Plaid Witchfinder General and some brainwashed transcult extras who know better than she does. She will be branded a heretic and Penarth will be denied a rational, balanced and honest candidate in the town council elections.

I do hope that the voters of Penarth (and indeed the rest of Wales) let Plaid know that Anne, rather than Leanne, is the more credible politician.

PS A Dragon would be a great emblem for Welsh feminists - so long has it didn't have a penis. Grin

Leanne is obviously looking for the youth vote.

Do you think that the timing of LW's GRA statement has anything to do with this?

"for allegedly having “offended” transgendered people"

Who else can claim this kind of power over speech? If I say the sky is blue should I be kicked in case I've offended a colour blind person?
Parties who do shit like this a treading a really fine line before they're not able to say anything lest it "offend" someone.

How on earth are the same "progressive" people who probably scoffed at Americans teaching creationism become so indentured to the religion of TWAW

This is one of those times when I wish community stations covered local politics and things like disciplinary committees. It's highly likely the Good Citizens of Penarth wouldn't believe their ears and be left wondering if they were being denied the punchline.

This is the same blog that a while back reported on parents' anger at the new rules being pushed onto schools in Glamorgan, but the council were pushing through them through anyway, despite parents saying it would stop their children doing PE. I don't remember it being such a sarky tone then, but perhaps like the rest of us the writer has just had enough.
